OoC: @Slenn You know why I bang on about Blazblue so much? Apart from Kingdom Hearts, it's the first J-thing I actually enjoyed. Every other thing I've looked at is nothing but overbombastic fight scenes, painfully slow storytelling, horrendously bad dubbing and character design that's nothing but overdesignd trenchcoats for the guys and pervy outfits for the girls. I want to get into it, watch some of the titans like FMA and play through FF7, but I just can't stand it.

Karkat shrugged, and appears before Tophat, and removes his white trilby. He looks tall, lean, somewhat fit 20 year old in a white suit and a white hat.

OOC: I understand. It's weird. And it's Japan. But for me I just see it as harmless material that only becomes perverted and even more strange in the hands of the fans.

Well... let's see. Touhou 6 can theoretically be beaten in 30 minutes if you survive all 6 levels, so there's your short storyline. The outfits are not perverted and cover the whole body. In fact you hardly see the characters at all on screen. Zun's character art is also terrible, but you almost never see it.

To be honest, maybe Blazblue isn't the best example. There's 20 minutes of talking between each fight, and the character designs...
But the reason I like it is because it's kind of winking at the whole thing. It uses every cliche in the book, but because of it's lighter segments like the gag reels and the extras it has a kinda goofy undertone. However, it gets really dark and grounded when it wants to be because of the writing of the characters and the story. The fact that it plays really well and it has some kickass music and voicework seals it for me. And both those characters? I actually considered playing them, maybe I'll still switch over to one of them before this thread is done.
