Daniel wasn't sure. He readied himself as best he could but couldn't bring himself to move towards James. He kept trying to will his limbs into action but couldn't. He finally managed to make a single small step forward.
"There has always been a sense of the weird revolving around this group... And end of the world type of stuff..."

James held his position, happy to let Daniel take the offensive, as merely defending himself would make it unlikely that he would hurt him. As he waited however, he began to become impatient. Daniel seemed paralysed by intimidation, and wasn't doing anything. When he finally took a tentative, shuffling step forward, James snorted, and then exploded into action. Springing directly at Daniel, he swept the undertaker in from the right, bringing the centre of the shaft to a halt less than an inch from his calf, then yanking it backwards, aiming to catch his leg in the hook and drag him off his feet.
Riou shakes his head. "I'll have to disagree. It would lead too easily to people trying to control them or use them for their own purposes. And who knows what would happen if you brought all 27 together? All of the greatest wars I know have all been the result of someone misusing or trying to control or gain a True Rune. Seeking knowledge is one thing. But tempting fate is a whole other. On top of that, I doubt we have the equipment in my home world to proper record or experiment, so it's all a moot point."
Daniel didn't have a clue what to do, he started moving his foor out of the way by instinct. James was fast and he hadn't thought of moving his sword to block in the time it was baring down on his leg.
EMily gave a heavy sigh. <color=blue>"Well.... that's fair enough. I meant no offense if anything. Everyone in their right minds knows how greed can lead to unstable power. I only meant to think about what it could mean. There are people out there with curious minds who want to know things. For me, I lived in an age of exploration and discovery. But I can see where people would want to hold back on things for a time. I'm sorry." She bowed in apology.
The hook of the undertaker snagged Daniel's leg and dragged him off of his feet just as James intended to. He stepped forward and held out a hand to help him up.
"Now I'm no expert in fighting with this thing, but I'm fairly sure that neither offensive or defensive tactics involve freezing up like a rabbit caught in headlights." He said. "I'm going to try and avoid hurting you, so don't be afraid. Maybe you should take the offensive first. Get the hang of attacking before you try defending."
OOC: @Ven Not sure if I understood your last post right. Did you mean to have him succeed or fail in avoiding the hook?

"No, it's fine. You're not wrong. It's a good ideal. Something that someone may one day be able to do, though I think it would need to be done on a small scale, but not something that I think could feasibly be done, at this time. Largely due to the tendency for people to get obsessed with power, and cause problems. Not to mention attempting to contain such forces... can lead to problems." Riou pauses for a moment. "The Flame Champion who fought the first Fire-bringer War ended up losing control of his Rune, the True Fire Rune, causing a huge explosion that killed thousands, allies and enemies. It also resulted in a truce, and the people he was protecting thought of him as a hero, but it was something that I think weighed on him."
