Once the orb was inserted into the obelisk, an inky black spot appeared in the center and expanded to nearly engulf the entirety of the inside of the sphere. The black spot shrank, like a pupil adjusting to light. The orb shifted about in the socket, seeming to look over the group. A stone sheath came over the carving, like an eyelid. After the sheath retracted, the orb was completely milky white. The barrier sphere surrounding the city retracted and sank into the obelisk, turning it the same shade of milky white, while the words carved into it started glowing red.
Now that the barrier was gone, the group could see that there was a second, smaller barrier inside the city. The outer barrier seemed to have only been covering up the outer-most third of the city.

Now that the opaque barrier surrounding the city was gone, the group could see that the streets of the city were littered with dead bodies. However, there were no obvious signs of conflict that could have resulted in so many people dying. Everyone seems to have simply dropped dead while they were going about their daily business. Most of the bodies were on the side-walk. There were also bodies sitting in chairs on the patios of restaurants, cold, half-eaten food sitting in front of them.

"Ok... this." Joe waves his hand to gesture for the entire scene. "This is kinda creepy..." He said as he continued to follow Makoto and the others.
Xu uncomfortably scooted around the dead, trying not to come in contact with any of them.
"Uh... Yeah, should we be here?" he said, holding on to Makoto. Kefka is cowering behind him, seeming terrified.

Makoto ran out of breath, and stopped. She looked around. "Holy... whatever happened here, it was big and it was bad. Haven't seen this many bodies since Ikaruga."
Erica nodded at AEanna, wiping a tear from her cheeck. She turned around and followed the rest while strapping the sheathe of the dagger around her left arm.
