"Man, I've seen this many dead civilians before, but they never looked so peaceful. They were alwasy torn apart, half eaten. They died in chaos. These people look like they never knew what hit them. I wonder what happened?" James said, moving through the streets, eyes open for any movement.

With the outer barrier now gone, the group could notice that the statue of Christ the Redeemer that used to overlook the city of Rio had been torn down and replaced with another, just as large statue made out of the same grey stone as the obelsik.
Looking at the bodies, AEanna was hard pressed to determine what the cause of death was. The bodies didn't appear to have suffocated, or injured in any other way, except that most had bruises that could be explained to have been caused by the bodies suddenly dropping and hitting the pavement. As far as she could tell, the people seem to have simply dropped dead.

OOC: Gonna say Grace and Gerry have been following the group.
Grace looked around at the city as Gerry cowered near her. "I have not seen death on a scale like this in a long time...I had wished to never see it again." she quietly commented before walking over to a body and using her divining spell to see if she could find what had caused all these people to die

Xu looks at the statue.
"Is that who ruled this place before? What happened here?"
He comes to Erica's Side, and slowly comes close to her for his own comfort. Fighting a monster thrice his size was one thing, but this... this was unheard of...
Kefka Follows by Makoto's side. She continued to walk by Makoto, her fur rubbing against Makoto's legs, like Kefka was holding on to his sanity by rubbing against her leg.

Makoto knelt and gave Kefka a stroke to calm her down. "Who or whatever did this, we're probly gonna meet it soon enough..." she mused to herself.
Grace's divining allowed her to determine that the people had not died naturally. They seemed to have been affected by a spell that killed people by removing their soul.
As the group looked around more, they would notice that the buildings around seemed undamaged, aside from the usual wear and tear. Except for one building in particular, which had been burned down. Strange, white fires still flickered and danced on what was still left standing of the foundation, as if it had been burned down recently.

James glanced around at the others, angered but unfazed at the carnage all around.
"Come on! The bastards that did this are very likely still here! Pull yourselves together, and lets go hunt them down like the dogs they are!" He glared at the burning ruin ahead.
"Maybe we'll find some useful evidence there."

"I have heard of spells that can steal the soul from a body, and it seems that is what happened here, but...to do so on such a large scale...it is almost unthinkable the amount of power such a feat would require..." Grace said as she finished checking over the body and looked around at the scores of others. "Peace, James. This is no time for rash anger." she said calmly.

"It looks.. frightening. I heard legends, legends of talented trainers gone mad in Kanto from monstrocities, but this... this is frightening. Just... look at it...."

Gerry started viably trembling when he saw the fire in the building, staring at it, wide-eyed with terror.
"I'd say this is a perfect time for anger." James said to Grace, his voice harsh but level. "What I can say for certain is that we'll accomplish nothing by standing around gaping at the people that are already dead. We can accomplish something by finding the fuckers that did this."
