He hears what Sable says and responds, "It appears the issue of who is in charge has not yet been worked out. Perhaps I shall wait until and I can speak with both who claim to lead at the same time."
Then he sees Valentine and says, "Excellent. I need to know what you require of me to prove that my Master is worthy of participating in this 'Alliance' of yours."
