James sighed and ran a hand over his close cropped hair.
"It was a big part of it. Not everything I guess. Its just... I've been fighting for so long now, and yet it always seems to be a losing battle. In my own world, we were regaining ground at a steady rate, but no matter how well we did, we were rewarded with nothing but meaningless numbers. Every time we lose someone though... that means something. A single dead friend is a greater loss than any size of a territory reclaimed from the dead. And now Mike is dead too. The last of my family, and the best fighter I ever knew. He wasn't as good a shot, and he wasn't as strong or fast as me even before I was infected with the T-Virus, but he was so damned smart. No matter what happened, he always had a plan, a way to lead everyone to safety. The idea that he could have been killed while I went on to survive as long as I have... I never would have seen it coming."
