After moving through the African plains for a time, eating whatever clean strands of grass it could find along the way to the ground, lacking the ability to dig very well, the grub came across a tree that snapped due to the shockwave the meteor crash produced. Approaching it, the grub smell a nest of beatle larvae in a hollow compartment in the tree. Climbing the tree, the grub nibbled on the bark as it went, finding it couldn't eat wood. Once it reached the nest, the grub poked its head inside the compartment and looked around without turning its head, then forced its way inside.
Driven to do so largely by instinct, it copied the scent of the larvae so they weren't alerted to the foreign creature invading, even though they were defenceless to do so even if they knew. Once having forced its way inside the nest, the grub began devouring the larvea, being done with it quickly due to being larger. After devouring the larvae, the grub laid still for a moment, then began weaving a cocoon of purple strands around itself.
