"We got a noob here" or Why I dislike online gaming

I play Halo Reach as the only true online game i play for a long time.
Can't say this hasn't happened.
Joined a game, was called a "noob" by some small brat.
The "noob" gets 3 assassination kills on the kid, with plenty of beat downs and headshots with the needle rifle. Ending the game with a 29-50 win.

But, eh, in halo now, if someone tries to teamkill me, ill let them and boot them when prompted without mercy.
Note how that says tries. If it was an accident, then i actually laugh at the misfortune and forgive.(some people react angrily and boot anyways)

Like one time when i jumped onto an elite in firefight to assassinate, not realizing that my anon ally had just fired a rocket as I let go of the jetpack thrust.
I managed to save the elite somehow, but, something to make vrex proud.

As Sarge from RvB has said: Shotgun to the face can be applied to a variety of tough situations. For example, watch how quickly it cures insubordination.

OT: I don't do XBL but I do play online PC games (okay, Left 4 Dead mostly). I haven't noticed the problem. But I typically don't jump into public games too often. I do remember when L4D2 first came out, I'd jump into random games and get booted out quickly for absolutely no reason. Seriously, I didn't get it. I jump in but I got booted out within about 2 minutes of starting.

The term that gives me the shits is 'scrub'. Started with Heroes of Newerth, which is very competitive. Got to the point where I said it a few times, but in that game noobs on your team are nothing but trouble. Sure, I mean if its their first time fair enough but join 'noob only' and beginner games, along with trying out the tutorial before heading into a normal high-ranked game.

Can't let the asshats who we all hate bring down online gaming as a whole. That is also why I rarely use my mic. That all said, even I hate it when I get stuck with a crappy teammate in Halo:Reach. I swear, I spent about 4 games in Multi-team yesterday scoring around 15-28 kills and always being dissappointed at my teammate due to his inability to get a kill.

Trust me, it's a big kick in the gut when the only reason you lost is because the player by your side is dragging you down.

I think your safe. Single player and multiplayer may not be talking much
anymore but they are still friends. Unless multiplayer is sleeping with
single players wife then watch out. The reason I love multiplayer so
much is you just cant beat playing against a real intelligence
(ok in most cases intelligence). The highs the lows I love it all.

edit:Oh and if someone just can't be reasoned with there is always mute.

On Halo Reach, my team and I took on a bunch of kids with this kind of attitude. After a lot of trash talking towards us, we tripled their score winning in about 4 minutes. It's quite enjoyable hearing a twelve year old screaming hysterically at you whilst your jamming a knife through his stomach. Ahh good times

Funny, as far as i had experienced almost noone on Castlevania HD even uses a mic...
anyways, if you have bad luck with random players it's best just to find a few friends and just play with them. Multiplayer can be fun with the right people.

People like that are one of the reasons why I don't play the multiplyer in games all that much anymore. When I do play online I either mute everybody else in the lobby or I play while in a party with friends. The best way to deal with people like that is mute them or put them on an ignore list. They are not worth talking to.

Okay, and this is why I slowly shifted my enjoyment back towards single player campaigns. If it was a good story, I'd rather just enjoy that than deal with idiots online. I get all nostalgic about the LAN parties I used to have in high school (back in 1997, I'm a somewhat old dude.) We played Marathon and then mostly Quake. In 1998 we also did a lot of Starcraft. When you were wailing on your friend you just laughed and yelled "You suck!" from across the room.

But now people can get away with just about every disgusting insult they want through the anonymity of online. Plus I like some interaction with actually human beings that I actually know in person in the same room. I want more of that in new games.

Oh and the whole n00b thing. When I was in the Air Force, a Newbie was what we called someone who was just out of basic training. Anyhoo, nothing's better than being called a n00b over and over again by some jerk-off, just to get really good at the game and lay a beat-down on the asshole a few months down the road.

That is why I like local multiplayer at least then you can throw a pillow at someone if they start being an asshole...that makes me wander now TV's are bigger why are we still only limited to 4 players With wireless technology you could have loads of controllers, Its not like we are still limited by controller ports.

Aish...I've had a lot of bad experiences myself, but there are some good/kind players still out there. However, I'll never forget my first bad experience online : Quake II. Now, I loved the game. I enjoyed the music. After beating the final boss for the fifth time on Hard, I finally got an internet connection and decided to try it out. On my first match, I was a bit in awe of people "rocket-jumping"(to me, a completely new concept) everywhere, racking up kills, and burning through matches quickly.
I wondered why everyone was using the Rail Gun, though. I mean, there were so many other weapons available. When I first used the BFG10K, attitudes changed. "No one uses the BFG10K! That's a cheap unfair weapon! Don't use that again!(without the punctuation, naturally)" So I put it aside, and people became more interested in "Arenas"... 1v1 fights while everyone else just sits and watches. I tried to go hunting, then got chewed out for that! And my use of the Super Shotgun? I think that's what soon got me kicked off the server. I know I was new to online play, but this was just cold. There have been other bad times, however :

* In Diablo II, I was yelled at then booted for actually stopping to collect stuff to sell and READING THE DIALOGUE! Apparently, if you aren't speed-running, you aren't welcome.
* In Starcraft as a Zerg player, I tried explaining that I didn't enjoy trying to use Defilers(They weren't for me, and yes I realize how useful they can be). You would have thought I identified myself as a devil worshiper.
* In Caesary(an online idle game), I was told off for not making "specialized cities", despite doing fairly well.
* Even on my own YouTube Channel [http://www.youtube.com/user/MercenaryCobra1], I have come under fire for my low-power runs, perfect runs, no-hit runs, etc., for not doing one "tiny little thing", such as missing a SINGLE SHOT(I remind you that a good number of these were no-powerup Mega Man runs), Not entering codes that would give me even less equipment by putting me ahead of the point of said items that I would collect from certain story points, or even not doing it "efficiently" enough(one once PMed and admonished me that I took longer than I should have by 5 SECONDS!), or worse.


I enjoy playing on the internet, make no mistake about that. But someone needs to talk to these people with such impossibly high regards to ask who exactly they think we're impressing.

I've had a few experiences online some bad others very funny. But since we're talking about bad experiences i'll just mention a few that have happened to me (but some will still be funny)

Turok:
Only one bad experience here really and that was someone moaning about me using The RPG in a deathmatch. Anyway this player then picks up an RPG and starts using it feeling the need to justify it by telling me "You use it, I use it" I just replied that it's only a game and that anyone can use the weapon as the developers put it in.

Halo 3:
oh where do i begin with this one? There's been hundreds of bad online players in this one so i'll just mention a few.

- someone flew off the handle cause i killed him with the laser twice
- after a multi-team game of oddball my teammate called me the worst partner ever. This is despite him not wanting to work as a team and ignoring the ball to pick people off with the sniper rifle.
- another person yelled for 10 minutes because i had stuck him with a grenade and ruined his killing spree.
- Lastly someone sent me a message telling me that i sucked and that he could win the game without me. I sent one back saying "lol do you want a medal or something?"

Left 4 dead:
I had just bought the game and decided to try out online co-op or multiplayer i forget which. Anyway i tried to play in about 5 different games but kept getting booted for some unknown reason presumably because i was a new player or something

OP - I think your best friend would be the mute button. I don't much like going in alone during multiplayer - just too many idiots out there for my liking.

If this fails by them sending you obnoxious messages, simply block communications with them and file a complaint and then submit a negative review about them. (Making them an "avoided" player.)

Like real life, there will always be idiots and you can't always avoid them - but there are some pretty cool folks out there. Join a clan and there'll always be some friendly folks amongst them.
