"We got a noob here" or Why I dislike online gaming

I really don't get this that often and I only play online games. The only time I've been shouted at for being a noob was when I was playing Realism Vs on L4D2 drunk with my friend, and we were fucking awful. It was likely called for as well, the friendly fire was quite high.

OP, the kid your example was abviously the noob. Not due to his lack of expirience with Castlevania games. But because he took AVGN seriously. That shit hasn't been funny since well before he got onto gametrailers.

This is why I love local and LAN multiplayer. It is a shame that less and lees games are being released with split screen options.

Personally, I haven't had to play a game online in months and months. Last game I played online was probably BF:BC2 and prior to that MW2, neither of which I played online for much more than a couple weeks before getting on to other great games. Oh I guess I played a fair bit of Dirt 2 online as well, seeing as I platinumed it. But anyway, point being you certainly don't need online to have fun gaming - yet. Lately I've been playing Mafia 2, Penumbra 1 & 2, Crysis Warhead, The Witcher - these games over the last month or so, and prior to that there was a bunch of other great games like STALKER: Call of Pripyat and Metro 2033 and Mirror's Edge. Tomorrow F1 2010 comes out, and after that there will be Gran Turismo 5, Diablo 3, pontentially Black Ops but I'm currently not planning on getting that one (maybe a rent, or a "pc rental" wink wink).

Anyway, yeah, there's always losers online that you just have to deal with and/or ignore. Generally speaking it just makes me want to play better to show them up.

I guess this explains why people are so desperate to pre-order. If they can get to playing the game right away, they can say they're not a "noob".

Funny thing about that is I was telling one of my students that I played MUDs, since it was similar to Lapis and MapleStory that he was talking about - something to talk about that might be interesting instead of the otherwise more boring academic topics that came up frequently. He called me a noob. I had to explain to him that it was quite the opposite.

i dont play online games much, but when i did, playing World of Warcraft and whatnot, i would find a few people saying "we suck so much" when we lose.

just recently, during the Free Gold Weekend, i rented Red Dead Redemption, my cousin invited me to online play. i joined him and his friends, then i started asking questions, like whats going on, why does my character look like a fat ass, etc. one person immediatly go "who's the noob"

i was slightly insulted, then my cousin says "my cousin, we are going to level him up so he can be awesome with us." and suddenly i was accepted.

the online gaming world is a strange place.

I don't play online very often, but I've had mixed results. Red Dead Redemption has some good examples. Within seconds of joining my very first posse, the leader started insulting me because I apparently stole his kill. Then when I started talking back, he kicked me out just for having an American accent. Mind you, this wasn't clear at first. They all kept talking over each other and their British accents were a bit thicker then what I'm used to.

But then I had the guy who actually rode in from clear across the map just to help me with a gang hideout I was having trouble with. Then we hunted deer for a while until PSN had one of its weekly errors. <_<

THEN, there was a really odd one. Out of nowhere some guy shows up and starts hounding me. When I asked why, he said it was in retaliation for killing his horse, which I didn't do. But I was able to set him straight and we ended up playing together for a few hours.

That's not how it goes when I play. Usually you just get called a noob for using (insert weapon name here) or they say you're cheating or being cheap. Ass holes never shut up.

Although sometimes you can get a good laugh out of these people. One time this kid on MW2 said "Hey Jumbo, knock knock." I of course asked "who's there?" he replies "Your aunt and uncle. You're going to have to live with them for awhile because YOUR PARENTS ARE FUCKING DEAD YOU ******." I don't think I've ever laughed so hard playing online.

That's a part I left out. I asked how old his parents were and he said one was 29 and one was 28 (so either he was waaaaay young or they had him at 16 and 17 or before), I then laughed and said I have literally been playing games before his parents were gleams in their dads eye, so how could I be a noob?

But if anyone wants someone to join them in a game on XBL just check my games, I have the same name there as I do here. Maybe if we get enough adults (not meaning you have to be a certain age, just a certain mindset- have fun but be grown about it, you know?) we can eventually take back XBL from the kiddies and spammers.

Haha its awful on Starcraft 2, once in a while just get some douche that completely ruins it for everyone. Some guy wished me dead my first time out cause I had comparatively little experience.

So apparently, since I don't spend my life signed on to XBL and play multiplayer, I am no longer considered a gamer and am a noob. 30+ years of gaming and I'm no more of a gamer than someone who plays only Farmville. Actually less of one because Farmville is online.

Take solace in the fact that you've had a much more enjoyable gaming life than the 12-year-old shit that you talked to. Playing a single game over and over again (aka Multiplayer!) is kind of like reading a good book over and over. It's great the first few times, then it becomes boring, and then your friends and family start wondering if you're off in the head and push new books on you.

I was in the multiplayer mindset for a while, sticking almost solely to WoW and the Shooter Duo (MW2 and BC2... *snerk* okay, BC2). Then the big Steam sale came along with a magical collection of single-player games that made me remember that single-player is leagues more fun than multiplayer. Thanks, Trine!

So yeah, you might not be as good at that one game, but at least you're diverse!

EDIT: And AVGN? I saw a few episodes of his show once. Apparently he tried to get on the same train Yahtzee rode in on, but forgot that the angry has to be mixed with the funny, and 50% is still a failing grade.
