We Must Now Bow Down to the Superiority of Japanese Developers

But I have to say, as much as Uncharted uses a lot of cut scenes to tell the story, at least they aren't 10 minutes long. They're usually pretty good about getting in and out of them quickly with very few exceptions, and they suit the cinematic style the games use heavily anyway.
About that, people keep bashing the idea that is impossible, i repeat, IMPOSSIBLE to make this game work if they used a Cinematic Event style of narration (like Half Life 1 and 2) instead of Cinematic Cutscenes. Have any words on that?

Hi everyone,

I just finished playing through Deus Ex (the new one, obviously), and, like most other people, thought it was a damn good game. Then I remember when the first trailers for this came out, and everyone was either like "Nyeh, it's not going to be as good as the original hurr durr", or "Nyeh, all Squeenix can do is make things look pretty, the actual game will be terrible...hurr durr." Now the game has actually turned out being pretty awesome, for all our weeaboo-bashing, we are gonna have to admit that Jap gaming companies are simply superior to anything out West. They just do it better. Edios tried to make a proper sequal to DE and failed terribly. Squareenix tried and...well...y'all know the result. Anyone agree?
Well that post reeks of weeaboo bullcrap. Especially since, as mentioned, Square only PUBLISHED the game, and did not develop it. It was developed by a very-western company. Get off your high horse, and just let everyone enjoy their games.

Nothing to add to this. Completely true. Check your facts OP.

I really disliked Deus Ex: HR. Convoluted story, bland characters, god-awful boss fights, shitty ending, skills that felt unnecessary and world that feelt small and restricted. I played it once, to the end, but it failed to redeem itself or deliver any memorable moments. Still a lot of people liked it so perhaps it just isn't my cup of tea.

off topic: While my exposure to Japanese developers was somewhat limited, they make pretty good stuff. Unique style and perhaps a little bit out there; they add much needed variety to gaming world.

Everyone already pointed out the Eidos Montreal problem, but even if Square was the developer *looks at FF IIX* ...yea I don't think we need to bow down to them

I hadn't really thought of it much before to be honest. I do think that while you can tell a pretty amazing story with some great set pieces of the sort you find in Uncharted (Valve has used set pieces often enough where appropriate), it would be a totally different feel than Uncharted with cut scenes. And considering Uncharted goes to great lengths to draw on, and to some degree, replicate the feel of movies like Indiana Jones, I think the cut scenes lend it that feeling of watching this epic adventure unfold in front of you; that cinematic quality the games try to invoke. And I think by keeping the cut scenes relatively short they can create those feelings in the player without completely getting in the way of the game.

Telling the story the way Valve does though is an approach that's much less in your face to some degree though, despite being literally in your face. They make you more a part of it than an observer, which I think does serve to make it a separate experience from something more movie like like Uncharted. It doesn't mean it couldn't work though, and it would certainly make for an interesting, if different, experience.

Whoo boy, you're making such a complete doofus of yourself that I suspect you're doing it on purpose. Some sort of trolling perhaps? Hm, not sure.

You see, DE:HR was made by Edios Montreal. They are not a Japanese developer. Squeenix was just the publisher.
I feel this mirrors my own response quite nicely.

I mean, what we actually see from the history is that Ion Storm just happened to stumble upon greatness once and something worth playing another time in their run. When they popped out invisible war, it might have been a perfectly fine shooter. It just wasn't the Deus Ex game the title indicated it might be. Human Revolution is simply a slightly better mix of FPS and RPG than Invisible War was. For all of it's laudable features, Deus Ex was a pretty bad game in a lot of ways (a statement of love I assure you). It is better served being made into a better shooter since so much of the game relies on combat to mediate progress but it still needs to retain those RPG mechanical hooks to a degree.

This is literally the first Japanese game I've given more than half a shit about since the fourth Metal Gear Solid.

But yeah. They're really blazing their way through that gaming market.

Squ'e-enix is only the publisher. And the developer that you claim to have failed, Eidos, was in fact the developer of Human Revolution.
And, as other people have pointed out, I suspect you may be trolling, my good sir.

God, I hope you are a troll.

Deus Ex: HR was developed in Montreal. That's not Japan.

Also, it was total crap.

You're wrong, good sir. It was made by the Canadians.

Not to mention it wasn't groundbreaking. I mean, I like it but its not revolutionary. No pun intended. Even if it was TEH BEST GAME EVAH and made by Square I don't know why we should "bow down to their superiority". One good game does not make a good gaming company or a good, whole countries' worth of developers.

Uh... you know when it when flashes EIDOS MONTREAL on the splash screens at the beginning of the game? Yeah....

Well as others have already pointed out. Square Enix was merely the publisher. It was developed by Eidos Montreal, a British company. Personally, I don't care where a developer is located, I just care how good their games are. A lot of my favorite developers are western, a lot of my least favorite are too. I don't play too many games by Japanese developers anymore but that is because they only release to consoles. If they released to PC, I would buy them. I bought SSF4.

Um, you might wanna check your geography..
Eidos Interactive Ltd. better known as Eidos, is a British video game publisher and is a label of Square Enix Europe.
I am not a moron, I know where Montreal is. It might maintain offices all around, but its a British game developer.
It was made in Canada, primarily by (French-) Canadians, let's just leave it at that.

People wearing haz-mat suits came to my door, and told me to wait outside because they had to tear-gas out the stray dog in my attic. I have an dog in my attic so I believed them. 30 minutes later they walked out with "bags of animal carcasses," which I later find out to be my ps3, wii, dvd player, and a bunch of jewelry. Didn't think that robberies could be so planned, but now my parents are mad at me. Now I can only afford a 360 which really annoys me.
I must say his earlier attempt at trolling was more amusing than this Deus Ex one, which is just dumb

western developers unerstand the whole "tell the story through the gameplay" and "no cut-scene overkill" (cutscenes arnt bad..but remember your not making a movie)
Good sir, have you played Uncharted or Legacy of Kain recently?? you know, made by western developers.
I havnt got round to playing uncharted yet

I actually like cutscenes, like Red dead redemption has alot of cutscenes..but they are fine because its just dialouge, I didnt get tired of them and they added to the story

what Im saying is when somone who has a high tolerance for cutscenes (like myself) is saying theres too many cutscenes....then you have a problem
