We need another series like Tomb Raider

Exploring old ruins in distant and forgotten parts of the world, opening secret passages to find ancient hidden rooms, finding ways to ascend a tomb to enter inside.

These things have been completely lacking in a series for years. Why? Chopping up dragons, shooting aliens and stealing cars doesn't compare to the thrill of exploring an ancient temple deep in the Amazonian jungle.

Basically I'm saying there's no adventure series around today which did what Tomb Raider did. And I want a developer to do one. It doesn't have to be like Tomb Raider, or even similar to it. It just needs a spirit of adventure which is lacking in the games I find today.

Anyone agree?

Meh, if it's not for PC it doesn't exist IMO.
Nice to see we're dealing with an intelligent person here.
It's not intelligent to refuse to purchase a piece of expensive corporate equipment as a prerequisite to playing a computer game?

I think it is.

That's because you're a moron.
You complain about there not being a type of game like the one you described, yet there is a an excellent trilogy exactly like that and you refuse to acknowledge it because you're a PC elitist.
If I told you about a book that was really good and I think you would like, and then told you "oh, but you need to buy the E-ReaderMaster 5000(tm) to read it", would you condemn me for accusing you of being a "paper-book elitist" if you refused?

I think so - and it would be totally justified.

I agree with the above poster, I bought the trilogy for PS3 (regrettably), and the "Ass camera" did my head in.

Isn't there a new Tomb Raider [http://tombraiders.net/stella/tomb9.html] coming out? A new Tomb raider is probably going to be quite similar to Tomb Raider games.

Anyway, if you want platforming action-adventure games, the Prince of Persia games are great and all available on Steam. It does mean giving money to Ubisoft though. Alternatively, you can pick up a 2nd hand original XBox and the entire PoP trilogy 2nd hand for probably less than £40 if you looked around.

You might also consider Batman: Arkham Asylum/City and Resident Evil 5 (the PC port of RE4 was appallingly bad and does no justice to such a brilliant, genre defining game). The above are also available via Steam.

I thought Tomb Raider was about the tits, the gameplay was usually fairly lackluster.
Aside from the obvious "Tank Controls" and the hard ass difficulty of Tomb Raider 3, I still hold the Tomb Raider series in very high regard.

Tits? flapping to Madonna like polygons, no thanks tah. That's all I have to say about that.

Also, I'm frikken stoked for the new one.

You weren't just stating that you don't want to buy a console.

You were acting like several fantastic console games just outright didn't exist.

That's foolish and wrong. He was out of place calling you a moron, but acting like there have been NO games of that type was just asking for someone to call you out in an aggressive manner.

Dear God not another bloody Indiana Jones type game. Isnt it enough that we the gamers have to endure something like the Uncharted series to be in the game industry and that even sells well? That indy crap is something that exist since the 30's, why people cant just move on of those adventure crap? they cry for innovation yet they jump as soon one of these appears.

There you go, I fixed it for you, there were a few spelling errors.

You're welcome.

There isn't enough adventure games, and 90 per cent of gamers will agree to that.

A series based around sex-appeal and being rebooted in a lack-luster fashion ever few years?... and sex appeal.

Sure, count me in!

Penumbra and Amnesia have those things, except you're usually exploring spooky mansions and such rather than extensive ruins. And they're on PC, which you seem to have arbitrarily pigeonholed yourself into.

Sooooo you think i prefer the shitfest that its the COD or MW series over Uncharted? it seems that (somehow) i wasnt clear that using the excuse for "homage" (sarcastic quotes) every time there is a suspiciously similar game/movie its just as bankrupt in originality as the militaristic porn shooter.

How long is it going to be? huh? first there was the 30's sci-fi, then came Star Wars "homage" and now we have Mass Effect "homage" to Star Trek AND Star Wars. COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW!!!

Oh and by the way, if you want an adventure series then you need to look harder because they already exist if what you want is an experience around exploring ancient civilitations or worlds, like say...Legacy of Kain. Then again, you havent described exactly what do you define for "adventure games"

Ironic much?

If you don't have a console it's obvious that Uncharted doesn't exist for you.

I want a new war shooter.

I am waiting for ARMA III, realistic simulators need more exposure.

A lot of people miss SWAT, the old Rainbow Six games, etc.
