You know what's sad... ? I've always wanted to make this thread, but never could.

Mainly because a lot of people already knew this was a problem, and making a thread on such matters only causes flame wars. But, it has gotten so out of hand that I personally thank you for making this thread anyhow. Even if you're a civil user, everyone needed to hear this and you made solid points my friend. The poison is to thick now and making the forums literally to sickening for me.

I used to post often, being active and all ... but, it became to vile in my eyes. I decided to be careful in what I posted along with how i'd words things. To have that attitude due to the people making it extremely difficult to have 'fun' is a huge concern. I personally want this thread to be announced and shown to everyone. In other words, telling people to calm the heck down from being so furious at each other for opinions.

... We need to come up with some threads asap. We could really use some light around here.
I know exactly what you mean... I came here because a lot of other forums I used to frequent became EXTREMELY toxic, and the escapist actually looked pretty nice and it was at first. But then the toxicity came here... and I became sad, but this forum is still somewhat better than places like neogaf and N4G..

Also you're avatar/profile pic/milkshake gif is fucking amazing.

Okay... Yorkshire Puddings. They are doughy, yet also slightly fluffy, tubs of deliciousness that are an essential accompaniment to roast beef. They are also really very hard to do well, so the people who can do them well get to feel incredibly smug towards everyone else for their culinary superiority.
My Yorkshire puddings (snerk!) always come out like extremely dense bread cakes. Taste okay though.

I went on an all-inclusive holiday to Tunisia a few years ago, and they had a 'theme' food evening, in this case English food. Except whoever did the Yorkshire puddings had evidently never had them, because they were made with puff pastry. And that shit gets everywhere.
Yorkshires? With puff...

What? I don't... how even?!

As an American who lives north of the Mason/Dixon line, I can't help you. God only knows what the Southerners see in those things.

- 'What do you think Marvel will try next?'
More of the same. They're making Oprah dollars on movies. Wheels are turning for more. We already know Avengers 2 is on the way. The setup for the Infinity Gauntlet proceeds apace. With the exception of a few neckbeards, everyone seems to enjoy (and spend money on) what Marvel is doing. Why would they stop?

- 'Americans... explain the appeal of Grits to me.'
I don't even know what those are. Think it might be a southern thing. I live in New England, ask me about chowdah!

- 'If you became the CEO of a major gaming publisher of your choice, who would it be, and what would be the first thing you'd change (you can only pick ONE thing, no cheating :p)?'
I would end DRM. It demonstrably does not stop piracy. Its effect on legitimate users is anything from a minor annoyance to a straight-up middle finger. I don't care how many dollars EA or whoever claims to lose to piracy, when pirates have a better experience than customers, something is deeply wrong and it needs to fucking stop. I like Stardock's stance on DRM, essentially "We know some people will pirate our game no matter how draconian our software is, we will therefore concentrate on treating our paying customers with the consideration we ourselves wish for."

- 'If the date of your birth became a national holiday in your honour, what do you hope you'd be remembered for?'
Huh. Ouch. Um....I've never done anything worthy of a memorial.

- 'Baby Seals win at cuteness... Discuss!'
No. Kittens win at cuteness. This is so obvious as to preclude discussion. Puppies are right up there, too.

OT: I used to be much more of an asshole. Someone says something you disagree with, just call them a fuckhead until they go away! The longer I live, the more I realize that systematically dismantling the other guy's argument with reason is actually much more satisfying.

Many issues truly come down to individual points of view. Harassment is a great example. Almost everyone can agree that staring at women is bad. But where precisely is the line between a quick appreciative glance and staring? Some would say a quick appreciative glance is just as offensive. Gray areas like this reveal who knows how to think, debate, and keep their cool, and who doesn't. Unfortunately, way too many people devolve into hooting chimpanzees when their pet opinions are on shaky ground. They'd rather be vilified as assholes than stop for two seconds and think about what's being said.

I don't understand why I like grits except that it was a breakfast staple and can be made with just about any southern breakfast food you can think of... and its not half bad. Why/what attracts me? Not a damn clue.
And if my birthday were a national holiday please nothing tragic memorialized, just a fun day to enjoy life on would be fine. Innocuous and nothing I repeat nothing to do with gift-giving unless you so choose to do... and do not give me any credit.
I'd call it "Live outside your box" day. Do something you normally wouldn't, thats harmless to others (and not morally gymnastic either). Do something positive and enjoy yourself, try something new...

I reckon they'll try to put Blade, The Punisher and Ghost Rider into the new Dare-Devil series having just got the rights back from Sony.

- Are superhero films actually the next step in genre filmmaking? Can they actually supplant something like the western?
I'm fairly sure they already have, Hollywood (like any other medium) is defined and shaped by its trends. Super-hero films dictate far to much to just be considered a passing gimmick. Not to mention, all the young (malleable) artists loosing their collective minds watching a guy dressed as a flying rodent beat on a sociopath in a clown costume or the fact that Marvel can create an entire universe spanning multiple films that the general public understands and accepts with each new movie.

If you're into super-hero films, list your top 5, it's fun and really gets you thinking about what you enjoyed the most.

Mine are:
-Watchmen (Damn son... harsh)
-Hellboy II: The Golden Army (It's Ron Pearlman fighting elves!)
-Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Damn son... deep)
-Guardians of the Galaxy (WOOOOOOHOOHOOHOOOOOO!!!)
-X-Men: Days of Future Past (That ending)

I just miss people on the forums actually wanting to talk to each other. I never get any replies to anything unless it's in the forum group chats where people seem to want to talk to each other.

I... I can't...

Don't get me wrong... I would LOVE to make one of those fun-ass threads that's all awesome and positive and all that jazz, but I can't because, in the long run, I don't think the thread would actually make me happy for doing it in the first place... In fact, I would assume the thread will fail and/or something negative would happen inside it that I didn't expect would happen, and all it will remind me of is that I still suck at making threads in general...

Sure, I do have about 3 or so threads I've made that I'm actually glad that I did, especially the one that ended up being some kind of catalyst to something positive that I didn't even see coming at all, but I rather play with the strengths I have now and just wait until certain [positive] threads come around where I can just comment and feel good that I did...

Fuck, I'm such a downer... uh...

I always wanted to make a thread asking about the best use of a real life person in a video game. Leonardo from Assassin's Creed 2 still has a fond place in my heart, just because of what a great friend he was. Also one of the few homosexual characters in gaming that isn't sterotyped.

Well, I for one think it's attitudes like this that are dividing the forums. The competition for cutest animal is fierce and should be open to debate ;p

We never talk anymore. You don't write, you don't call. You haven't even asked how the baby is. I don't think this is working out. I think we both know that we've been drifting apart for years.

I think it's time we called it off.

you know usually I would be against ghettoising certain topics of discussion...and still am, but I think we've reached the point where we need to chill the fuck out and leave it alone
Isn't that basically how we got here, though? As communications technology has advanced, we've developed ways to better insulate ourselves. In a world where knowledge should be the most available it's ever been, we look to that which reassures us. Every single group has an echo chamber and it's this segmentation of the population that seems to be directly related to the shouting down of people with different opinions. And if we continue to segment, it's only going to get worse. More and more topics are suddenly "controversial" and "off-limits."

Hi everybody! Long time reader, few time poster.

I guess you could say I'm something of an RPG fan. Well yesterday I completed Xenoblade Chronicles (brilliant game), clocking in at 120 hours. Before that I finished Bravely Default (awesome game) at 160 hours. And sandwiched inbetween? Earthbound (amazeballs). Let me tell you, my firends, it's been an awesome...bunch of months! Giving myself some breathing room before tackling Final Fantasy Tactics or Vagrant Story.

If there's one thing that stands out about the aforementioned games its the music. To be fair there's a LOT that stands out about them but I love music.

While everyone's got Command and Conquer in their minds: Rise of Nations. No FMVs but I really enjoyed how different ages and different nations gave something fresh to each playthrough.
