You are so stupid i want to punch my computer screen, and yes i live in france, i just can't think of any other response to this thread than a big "fuck you" - it's really all it deserves.

If you want to learn history then stop sleeping through your junior high classes, if you want to remain a bigot then fine just dont ever come to this country. As for what european countries think of America and Britain there isn't enough space on one page to fit all the negative stereotypes, and stuff like this is exactly the reason they think that way.

As for surrendering, if your nation bordered the residence of the most powerful invading force the world has ever seen, your government may have to reach a compromise too.

Oh and for fuck sake make an effort to spell correctly in what is no doubt the only language you speak.

It was only a matter of time before a Frenchman appears on this thread, but i don't blame you for raging, France's international reputation (as well as Americas, and as you say Britain's) isn't brilliant.

Yes but I don't understand why any one has it in for me, as Bloodeye as said I didn't do this to cause an argument nor did I say I believe the French are cowards I mearly wanted understand why the stereotype is attributed to the French. I also included this in my thread

Now not long ago I was on Uncyclopedia looking at random stuff for shit's and giggles, upon looking at funny subjects to joke about, mainly my home town (apparently were all inbreeds ) I decided to type in France I though it was piss funny but I saw the old We Surrender gag and it got me thinking, well why is this trait often jokingly attributed to the French?. Does this have some thing to do with the background of France or due to war, obviously this stereotype as to have came from some were... but were?, see I haven't done much study on France, I know they were really good fighters at one point back in the 100 year war, so I don't know were it's come from.

I was going to put up a poll asking whether the French are or aren't cowards but I honestly though it may cause flame baiting so I've decided against it. My question here is in no way meant to cause any sort of offence or to start flame baiting, just to figure out why from the members of this forums, why France is plagued by this stereotype.

Okay please calmly reply with what I said in my thread that offended you??, did you read my thread or did you read the title, I didn't do anything to offend any one, not deliberately any way, I stated that I didn't want flaming in the thread nor was this thread meant to cause flaming. As for spelling well according to google chrome my spellings correct and I've just put it through Microsoft Word and it finds no problem with my spelling so I'm sure to hell you didn't read my post. I'm not in High School in fact I'm in my third year at college I was just curious about the stereotype.

You know why the French have a reputation for cowardice? Because the Americans don't like people who don't jump at their orders and invade middle-eastern countries when they say so, so they slandered the entire nation as "cowards" for refusing to invade a sovereign nation on fraudulent pretenses. Willie may have coined the phrase "cheese-eating surrender monkeys" first, but he's a Scottish stereotype; we all know this is all about Iraq. Fuck you America: France saved your ass in the War of Independance (and did you know that Paul Revere's father was FRENCH?) and you trash talk them as soon as they don't mindlessly fall in behind your lies.

And sure, they surrendered in WWII. You know why? Because they'd lost. They didn't just drop their guns and scream like girls as soon as they saw the tanks; they were hit by one of the most brutally efficient military offensives in military history, the blitzkrieg. La Resistance fought against them for the entire war. I'd like to see how well YOU would have done if you weren't separated from Germany by half a continent and an entire ocean. Hey, news flash for you: AMERICA DID NOT WIN WWII ON THEIR OWN. Enough with the bloody Hollywood propaganda! Except for Hawaii, you were never in any danger during the entire war, I don't see what gives you the right to be smug about it.

Now Hold on a second, this has nothing to do with iraq, i was calling frenchies cowards since before iraq, as was my father. His first wife was a frenchie, she cheated on him. While i wont deny that your help in our independence was crucial but they didn't save our asses, we had to give them an arm, a leg, and our left nut before they would agree to anything. Oh yeah there were two other men who actually did more than Pual Revere, the only reason why no one remembers them is because a lot more things rhyme with Revere than Dawes and Prescott, the two other riders were William Dawes and Samuel Prescott. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was the writer of "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere." Look up some history ok?

And hawaii was in Danger, ever hear of Pearl Harbor? Yeah, we were facing the Japanese as well as the Germans; people seem to forget that the US was fighting on two fronts. By the way no one ever said we won WWII on their own, enough with your belligerent name-calling.

The French are probably considered to be cowards because they have apparently only won a single war by themselves and that was the Revolutionary war (where they fought themselves). Not sure how much truth there is in that statement.

The US was dragged into WWI after Germany sunk the Lusitania, but it was a British ship so wasn't one of 'yours'. (I'm assuming from your earlier post that you are an American.)

ahh yes, thanks for correcting me, i had revised that post earlier with a comment about not being sure about that. There were americans on the ship though, thats why we got flustered, it was more or less an excuse to go to war. Also, the assumption of me being american is a safe one.

I think part of this, too, is the idea that the French culture is more laid back, and painted less as tempermental. I remember when taking French in high-school, we were told all about how in France, there is less of a rush on a daily basis. They go to restaurants to socialize, and put less emphasis on getting their food quickly. They walk more and have a lot of street preformances and such. It is a patient culture that appriciates the arts. Having never been to France, I don't know how much of this is true, but it was taught in high school, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. This would mean they are less inclined to fight, hence the idea of surrender is established. My personal experience, on xbox 360 live, is that they shit-talk a lot to americans such as myself, which is not cool, but I wouldn't call them cowards. Haters, maybe, but not cowards.

Why does their military suck, because its comprised of FRENCH PEOPLE. They've lost nearly every war they've been in. They didn't suck when a fat, annoying, one armed bandit with a God complex led them though. They do have Napoleon, but he won all the fights- except the one that mattered.

And he said, according to the QI historians, that out of the 125 major European wars fought since 1495, France has taken part in 50, which is more than Austria (47) or England (43). Out of 168 battles fought since 387 BC, France has won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10.

So what does it matter, they fought more than anyone else on the continent. The fact is they have fought and defeated pretty much ever country in europe at least twice.
