Peter stood back and turned to Sammi. "I've heard of this guy... it's more of sending a statement for him. Plus, this place is the closest island to the main Marine station in the West Blue, Porte Carlo. Very nice strategic spot. Plus after everything we did? Well, this place isn't in the best spot to defend itself." Peter knew about some of the more famous pirates in the West Blue, and none of them were making quite the stir like Roger Harligold.

"Those four who ran off all had bounties. Thing is I can't put my finger on these guys names or powers..." He tried to think, but came up with nothing.

After he heard Hal speak, he turned to him "Yeah, we kinda did screw this island, didn't we? And I don't think Marines would be willing to help. Or even able to help. If someone did manage to get the call out for reinforcements, it'd take a while for them to get here. We're on our own here. So the big question is: what next?"

Jacque is still dazed as he is rather calm about the new situation.

He spoke to himself "Twelve hours eh? That's plenty of time for me to rest up and for Peter and the others to wake me up. I hope they get back soon to make me up otherwise I will go look for them once I had fully awake."

He let out a yawn as he had move his head back onto the pillow. He closes his eyes trying to get back to sleep.

"Well... I still say we oughta get out of here. I've never had the pleasure of meeting Harligold myself, but I've heard all the stories and based on the way he's been operating here so far, he definitely means business. " Hal said, starting to pace back and forth anxiously. His luck was supposed to improve after being rid of the Budero and Yarrakona, but things still weren't looking up. "I mean think about it: Why blow something up and tell us we have 12 hours to get ready before he comes back? He knows he could just as easily sneak up on this place and take it without much of a fight. No, he WANTS us to be ready so we'll put up a fight. It's more fun for him that way I guess. Can the seven of us really take on a guy like that after fighting all day and being beat to hell like we have?"

Alaena made her way through the bustling streets of Lasklee, doing her best to get to city hall with the limp from the fight with Tozani. Taking a moment to catch her breath, she took out a few pain killers she had bought from the family hospital earlier and dry swallowed them before continuing on.

The city hall was still burning in a few areas from the explosion caused by Harligold's men. Debris was strewn across the street, and a number of people were being treated for light wounds from it. A few eyes followed her as she went inside the ruined building, coming out a few minutes later with the old mayor's Den Den Mushi in her hand. 'This should read most, if not everyone's ears,' she thought, climbing halfway up the clock tower nearby and standing on one of it's ledges, 'Time to see if I can still make a convincing speech...'

"People of Lasklee," Alaena started, hearing the distant sound of her voice from around the city, "These are trying times. Before it was the two gangs that ruled and oppressed this city, and now after getting rid of the first threat we now have to deal with yet another. One that is even more dangerous than the last. But I believe we can triumph over this pirate crew just like we did over the Buderos and Yarrakonas."

"It will be difficult, but if we can band together and put our skills to use we can do it. We can save this city! The marines have abandoned you once again in your time of need, but I have not. I will not! I will fight to the end for this city and it's people. I can understand wanting to give up and either leave or give in to the damned pirates. But that is the easy way out. The coward's way! Most of you have lived on this island your whole life, and I know how hard it is to leave the place you call home."

"That is why I say we should stay and fight for this city. If you do not wish to stay here, then I neither judge nor blame you. You should leave while you still have the chance. But for those who wish to fight for their city, their home, than stay here and fight with me. We will protect this city with everything we have. For those who want to stay and fight, come to the center of town. Even if you do not have anything of use or any particular talent you can still help. We have twelve hours people of Lasklee, let's make them count."

Peter heard the announcement. Not quite as booming as the previous announcer was, and it was clear Alaena's injuries caught up to her and hit her hard just by how her voice sounded. "What's all this "we" stuff? I don't get any credit? Even if Tozani wasn't dead, my plan would have ruined him!" He tried his best to calm himself. It was a peeve of his when someone didn't give him credit. "The citizens are going to either retreat, and some are going to stay and fight. I suppose it was only a matter of time until someone tried to organize them. Still, that girl is gonna get herself killed. She's trying too hard to be some big hero..."

He turned to Hal "I'm not sure how big Harligold's forces are. Honestly? I don't know. I know I could probably outsmart them, do some nice chunks of damage to them. But even then..." he tried to get his mind off that. "My ship will still be undergoing modifications, but it's still functional and able to sail. So while we wouldn't be on the fastest vessel, we still have a way out of here."

He took a moment to think. "Well, I know that girl is going to stay and fight, and Hal, you want to leave." He started pacing around the inn. "What about everyone else? What do you guys think? Should we stay and fight? This was kinda our fault things are this bad, after all. Or should we cut our losses and head to our next destination?" Peter personally wanted to see just how much of a chance he stood against someone like Harligold, but he didn't want to endanger the crew against their wishes.

Yoje answered with barely a second thought. "Let's stay and fight. Alaena's skilled, but she and the citizens of this island aren't going to survive this fight on their own. We could make a difference. Besides, we've done so much trying to help this island already, I don't want to let it go to waste now. And I haven't had a really challenging fight in a while either."

Grana looked at his arm and sighed. "You know, I think we owe it to these people after taking out both Yarrakonas and Buderos. Yes, that was good, but ultimately they were this island's only line of defense, and we killed or ruining the both of them." Grana sighed as he shifted his arm into a more comfortable position. "Now, this might sound stupid coming from a thief, but I still have some honor. I screwed up trying to take down Tozani, and it ended up leaving me with a mauled arm and a useless prayer. I for one, intend to clean up after the mess I made. I don't leave things half done, and that's that. I'll stay and help Alaena. If you guys decide to leave, that's your business. Just tell me what island you're going to; I'll buy a boat and just follow you there.

Grana slowly unlaced his shirt and laid down on the bed, using his shirt to make sure no blood fell on the sheets."I'd be lying if I said this wasn't partly a test for me. I'll need to be able to overcome anything in the Grand Line. If I can fight with one good arm, then I reckon I'm set." Grana slowly closed his eyes as he laid his swords to rest beside him. "I can stop Harligold's cannons, but if what I heard about him was true, then I'll need all the rest I can get. Oh, and Captain? Please at least leave a plan if you escape. I promise to follow it to the letter- this time." Damien chuckled at his ironic statement before finishing. "Someone wake me up in 11 hours, alright? I don't feel like being drowsy and then having to fight. Goodnight." While Grana tried to hide it, he needed the rest a bit more than he was letting on. For the first time in a while, Damien could feel battle fatigue set in, and he knew how deadly that could be.

As Ainha returned to the living room of the house, both Marielle and Lilliena stood up to join him. The younger of the two immediately spoke up. "Ainha, I'm staying behind. I want to help people who do the same. It's just not right to simply run away from the problem like this."

"Marielle, no. You're too inexperienced, you don't have enough control over your ability," Ainha immediately answered. "It's safer for you to come with us. Jansine will be happy to have us for a while..." He trailed off as a second voice began to project itself through the open windows. This one was different. Female. She spoke of a defence of the city, of standing up for that which was rightfully theirs. The speech sent a chill through Marielle, though she was by no means cold. It was the strength of the words that had caused it... though she could hear what sounded like a strain to the woman's voice.

"You see? Other people want to stand and fight. I'll join them, I won't be alone in that regard," Marielle said. "I'll help you both with the packing, of course, but I'm going to stay behind."

"I don't know..." Ainha mused. "It could be a trap, designed to bring in those willing to fight the newcomers and remove them before they have a chance. This is very dangerous, Marielle, you'll be safer with us," he repeated.

"No, Ainha. I don't like ignoring a problem or walking away from it. I want to stay and fight... a dangerous life is pretty much the only one I've known," Marielle countered. That was true enough: Lasklee, the city in which she had more or less grown up, had always been violent. This was just another step up from the usual. "Lilliena has already agreed to let me stay. I might not have full control over my power, like you said, but I'm good enough to stand up to a fight."

She hoped that was the case. Marielle had never actually tested her ability on another human, but based on the trials she had experimented with, it was pretty destructive against wood, glass and other easily breakable materials.

There was an almost tangible silence in the room as Ainha considered Marielle's statements. Eventually he broke it. "Alright... alright, you can stay behind. We'll leave you some supplies and such, and you can stay here if you want to. For now, we need to get packed up as soon as possible." With that the three of them got to packing up as much as they could carry.

[hr]

A short while later the Villeneuves were packed up and sorted out. Lilliena and Ainha had both hefted packs onto their backs, carrying a fair bit in terms of money, valuables, clothing and supplies. Marielle, however, had packed up her own things as well, plus that which her parents had given her. She didn't know if she was going to come back and sleep at their house, so everything had been packed up.

"Alright... are you sure about this, Marielle? You wouldn't rather come with us?" Ainha asked once more. Staying behind was what Marielle wanted. She wanted to help in some way, to use her power for a good cause. And she couldn't do that by running away from her problems.

"No. I'll stay behind," she said resolutely as she slung her own pack onto her shoulders, adjusting the jacket underneath it to fit comfortably. She led the way to the door, opening it for the others before leaving the house herself. It was a strange feeling, to have to leave the place one considered home. She briefly wondered if the three of them would return under better circumstances.

Then Marielle stepped through the door and closed it behind her, her decision made. Lilliena stepped forward and pulled her into another tight hug; this one was meant to say goodbye. Ainha joined the two of them, kissing the top of Marielle's forehead. The three held their embrace for a few moments before they drew apart. "So... you're off then," was all Marielle could bring herself to say. It seemed a little awkward to her.

"Yes. Good luck to you here... and come back alive," Ainha said, his tone mimicking an order. Marielle gave the two a small wave as they turned and made their way to the docks, where they would look for a ship to get them off Lasklee. The young woman, however, turned and headed in a different direction: the centre of the city, where she would meet this stranger and see what she had to say.

Sammi listened to what her crew mates had to say, the merchant wanted to leave, while the bouncy boy and Grana wanted to stay and fight. The woman who patched her up certainly made her choice, understandable since she lived here. It was given some thought before she spoke up.

"I say we stay," she concurred. "If this guy's looking to make a statement, I say we hit him with the exclamation point and beat him at his own game. He wants to come here and sweep in picking up all the shattered fragments of this island, he can damn well go through me and Grana and anyone else who's got the guts to take him on." I'm pretty sure I still own him something for Bob. He told me about a pirate who pushed him out of the Western Islands, I think he said his name was Roger. I dunno, it seems so long ago now, those talks we used to have... After this self-pause, Sammi stood up, hoisting up her bag of goodies. "I'm going to lock this stuff up and then I'm going to start getting ready to fight this guy." She headed upstairs, intent on securing her newfound belongings in her room before getting ready to see what kind of fight this place would be able to put up against someone who even her previous mentor cursed.

Peter nodded, stepping up. "Ok... seems we have a majority opinion here. So it looks like we'll be sticking around. Now then, I'm gonna head back to my ship to start making some preparations. Maybe take a look around town to see if anyone else is going to stand with us. I just need to get my gear and I'll be right back." he stood up and walked outside, heading towards the docks. He stopped and then turned around, heading to the town square.

"I'll go to the center of town now, then." Yoje said as he morphed into his hybrid form. "Hopefully Alaena got a lot of other people to help her fight. She or Peter should be able to make a good plan to stop Roger." before he hopped off, he looked at Hal, who seemed dead set against staying to fight. "You could leave on your own, you know. It'd be helpful if you stayed, but there's nothing forcing you to." Without waiting for a response, he jumped over to where Alaena had asked everyone to gather.

"This is all of it ma'am."

Alaena looked up from a map of Lasklee that had been placed on a table outside of the clock tower, noting the stacks of crates that had been brought over from the two gang's bases. "This is good. How much ammo is there?" she asked as she walked over to the crates, examining the quality of the different guns inside.

"Um, quite a bit if I recall. At least a crate of ammo for each gun here. They're bringing it over here now," replied a young man that had been assigned with the group sent to collect the two gang's weapon caches. The group had been comprised of the first people to respond to her call to fight, most of them having already been around the town center. Since then a few more people had come by and were assigned basic things that needed to be done; though Alaena was considering trying to rally more civilians to come help. 'Or at least try to have them make haste.'

"Even better. This means that there is enough ammo to practice with. Have the group send the ammo and guns to the park; that's where shooting practice will be," Alaena replied after putting down a pistol, letting the young man get back to work as she turned back to the map on the table. There were numerous drawings all over the map for different things; the placement of the few cannons they had, alleyways that could be prime areas for traps or useful escape routes, and more.

'All these things will even the odds a small bit, but is there a chance of us winning?' she asked herself, staring down at all the drawings and notes written down. The idea of simply leaving this place had popped up in her head once more at the odds against them, but she knew she couldn't do it at this point. She was already too far in to bail out now.

"You'll get through this...you've done it before so many times," Alaena muttered, grabbing a pencil and jotting down more notes as she waited for more people to arrive.

He saw that about a dozen people were preparing for something. He walked up and saw Alaena trying to organize something. "Hmmmmm... not a bad battle plan. Seems a little... basic, though. And judging by the people we have here, it isn't that well suited. Not enough people to get it all set up properly in time." he kept looking over the map. "I'm impressed you managed to think up something like that so quickly. Not the best improvised plan I've ever seen... but up there." He looked around the weapons there, noticing a couple surviving members of the two families also starting to head towards the building. "Still, what exactly are you going to do about their bigger fighters? We might be able to stop the grunts, but we know he has some big hitters in his crew."

He kept examining the people getting ready to fight. "You don't really seem all that used to large-scale invasions... this seems more like the best strategy for a guerrilla war. Not that many casualties and minimal property damage, and some well-thought out networks to escape. That's all well and good if you want to keep fighting them for a month. Me?" he reached out and tried to grab the map. "I think a little bit more of a destructive approach would be more helpful..."

He yelled out to the people there "HEY! Anyone here got anything we can work with?! Cannons, ships that can fight, any devil fruit users here?"

As Marielle walked into the center of Lasklee, she could see a hive of activity unfolding. A fair few people were already gathered, some of whom were carrying crates around or standing near them, on guard. Two people stood over a table, looking over something, presumably either a map or a battle plan to defend the city. One was occasionally glancing around at the people milling about... he spoke up.

"HEY! Anyone here got anything we can work with?! Cannons, ships that can fight, any devil fruit users here?"

A smile twitched on Marielle's lips as she brushed a lock of hair out of her eyes: she was going to prove herself useful the moment she made her presence known. With that in mind, she strode up to the two at the table to introduce herself.

"I fall into the latter category. I'm Marielle Villeneuve," she stated, giving the pair a brief nod of greeting. "If needs be I can give you a demonstration of my ability. I can use it to fight, should the need arise." She did not doubt that there would be fighting. The first speaker had said that they would overcome the resistance that stood against them; that could only lead to battle.

Alaena glared at Peter when he started to criticize the rudimentary plans she had made, clenching her jaw as she let him take hold of the map. "Since you seemingly know so much than why don't you come up with the plan, and I'll help oversee it? I wasn't trained for a large-scale attack; neither at home nor for the cause. That's why I used those tactics, and I believe they can still be put to good use," she stated, not pleased with the way Peter had come in and taken over. While her annoyance was visible to anyone with eyes she allowed him to change the plans to those that could prove more useful; she knew it was more important to help the people than to protect her wounded pride.

"More people will come and help," she started, looking over at the girl who introduced herself as Marielle, "See Peter? And for the record there are cannons that are being brought over by some people I sent out earlier," she added, turning her attention back to Marielle, "I demonstration would be good. Have you ever been in combat before?"

Hal was somewhat surprised to hear that he was the only one who didn't want to fight Roger and his crew. "You guys are nuts..." He finally said, but most of them were already gone. Hal was about to storm out and buy the first boat he could find off this island. As he left the inn, a thought hit him. What if he ran into Roger out on the open sea? He would be even more screwed if that happened. Maybe sticking with Peter and his crew would be the better choice after all. And he did sorta owe them all for their help.

"Can't catch a damn break, can I?" Hal sighed as he changed course for the city hall. He let out a low whistle upon seeing the amount of people who had already showed up to defend Lasklee. He had figured most of them would run rather than fight. Finding Peter wasn't too hard, especially with him calling out for supplies and assistance. Hal found him in the middle of it all with Alaena and some girl he didn't know.

"Alright Cap'n, guess I'm in it for the long haul..." Hal said to Peter once he had gotten close enough. "You guys need any supplies or anything? Just say the word and I'll get em for you. Better keep me busy though, before I come to my senses and realize what I'm doing."

"No, never been in combat," was Marielle's simple answer. She had never fought anyone, not even in a simple street brawl. "As for a demonstration..." she added as she stepped back to show her power in a way that they could see. She needed something to target, something that wasn't exactly noticeable... the ground would do. Pointing one closed fist at the ground below, she opened the hand a little. Almost instantly, familiar blue light began to emanate from her fingers, quickly turning into a beam of energy which punched into the ground. The beam lasted for a few seconds before Marielle closed her fist again. She noted that a small crater was left behind as a result of the blast.

"I can produce destructive energy from my hands and mouth. It's proven to be effective against materials like wood, glass, etcetera... but I haven't tested it against a living target," she explained, a little sheepish when she added that last part. These people were probably expecting at least some people to be fighters, particularly those with Devil Fruit powers. Marielle had no such experience.

Peter seemed intrigued and walked over to the small crater. It seemed big enough for him to fit his hand in, but didn't go that deep. "Seems to be based on concussive force... doesn't seems to leave any signs of a burn, so not much heat involved, or at least very little." He turned to her "Not bad... you think trying it on a person would have any different results? And you're sure you can keep the amount of power behind it controlled?" He looked around the place, as if adapting a plan with the new information he had.

Yoje was walking around for a bit, helping to carry a crate and observing the people who had chosen to defend Lasklee. There was a fair amount of people, and most of them seemed to at least know how to fire a gun. "This might not be as hard as I thought it'd be. We'll need a really good strategy too, though. Maybe Peter or Aleana has thought of something."

He ran to the spot that looked like the center of plannings, and found Peter Alaena and Hal standing by a girl he didn't recognize. His questions were all cut off when he noticed the small crater in the ground. "What happened here? Did something explode?"

"Impressive," Alaena said after watching Marielle's display her power, making a mental note to grab Inshi's spearhead and keep it with her for when Harligold attacks. 'Just in case I get caught up in a close-range fight with a Devil Fruit user again,' she thought, her hand going over to her holstered revolver for reassurance. She watched as Peter looked around after the display, and decided he knew what he was doing.

Instead she turned her attention to Peter's other crewman, telling Yoje, "A simple showing of a Devil Fruit ability." She went back over to the table to overlook the map as she tried to figure out what should be done next. 'Guns and ammo are being moved, training of firearms will be commencing once those are moved, cannons are being brought over...have we checked the Marine station yet?' She wondered whether the Marines had emptied it out before leaving, or if they might have left things behind. 'It won't take too much time to check out, and there is the chance they left something. Even just info could be of use.'

"I'm going to check out the Marine outpost nearby, see if there is anything of use there. If you two don't want to come with then just ask your captain what he wants you to do," Alaena told Yoje and Hal before leaving them with a quick Soru.
