I made a trebuchet for physics. At the moment as a rough build without any tweaking and a brick as CW, it can lob a tennis ball about 20 meters.

Other things are.......shall we say, a little on the wrong side of legality. What can I say? Military nut with pyromaniac friends.

A working trebuchet that could throw a fist-sized rock about 60 feet
How big (tall) was it? A friend of mine made a 10' tall trebuchet that launched a watermelon at least 150'. It was "supercharged" with garage door springs. Scared the hell out of me when it fired.
Technically ain't a treb if it has springs helping power it. Trebs are counterweight power only.

Let's see, a working scale model of a trebuchet(large enough to throw melons), couple of times some real explosives at the chemistry class (under strict supervision and in almost harmless quantities, though a glass test tube filled with the stuff would work as a cheap miniature grenade) and a potato cannon/mortar from carton, plywood and metal sheets.

Then there's the wooden spears I've made as a kid for fun (my mother didn't like that too much) a slingshot (who hasn't sone this one?) and a honest to god blowpipe. The most lethal would be the bolt-lock rifle made from pressed metal sheets I did last year. Never tested that one, but theoretically should work with 7.62x39 ammo and be accurate to a hundred meters or so (Not too sure about the rifling in the pipe) and not fall to pieces after the first few shots.

I built a flame thrower out of a water gun .

if you dont believe me check it out, you see it in action about half way through the vid.
That's generally not the best idea. I've personally witnessed those things blow up when the tank begins to get empty.

You should also know that petroleum based products (like gasoline and most lighter fluids) will dissolve the plastic in the water gun. This can cause leaks and explosions.

This guy did it right:

However, I would not recommend building something like this. It is not only VERY illegal, but it can get you blown up quite effectively.
It legel in england i will defoo give this one a go. ermm as mine i understood the risks. The danger is lessoned if you have two cylinders, the other one i made used a super soker. This was alot safer and didnt heat up as much. Still it is risky and my parents would kill me if they sore me doing this.
