No, you read that title correct, according to the newest comic today, as well as the official forums, Brawl in the Family is officially ending later this year.

So my question, have you ever read the webcomic, and if you do what do you think about this latest news?

Personally, I really sad about this, as I've loved the webcomic since it started, especially the musical Christmas specials. But I understand what Matthew is saying when it is hard to come up with comic ideas and that he'd rather end the comic before it would jump the shark.
According to the forum post detailing the reasons, and the responses, the site will stay up and the forums will still be active as well as the store. However, they did say they might eventually close the store as well. But if you'll excuse me, I'll be going into that corner over there, crying tears of sadness because Waluigi Time is almost over. T^T

So thoughts on this anyone?

Never heard of it.

However, it's always sad when a long running webcomic comes to an end. Or worse, just isn't updated anymore. Xylia tales comes to mind. Maybe Skin Deep, or even Tasty Flesh (which had a weird charm).

Hell, even just going through a big archive and reaching the natural conclusion is a bit sad. It's always sad when I reach the end of Casey and Andy, the first Krakow thing, DMlotr, or even that one about Yahtzee taking on the world.

OTOH, though, keeping a webcomic going once it's stopped being interesting isn't a great idea either. Irregular webcomic and the others by the same person, for example.

I can definitely respect the decision to end before jumping the shark. "I'd rather people ask why I stopped, than why I didn't" or words to that effect have been repeated for many years.

I have the same feeling as when I found out 8bit theater was coming to a close... Bittersweet but at least its going to end before it sucks. This closes me down to a handful of webcomics: Megatokyo (I can't believe its still going), Awkward Zombie, Critical Miss (gee I wonder), Grrlpower, Darths and Droids, and the one that got me into it all Penny Arcade.

I will enjoy it til the end... and maybe archive it just in case.

Dang. I really liked that comic. A genuinely funny webcomic that's rated PG... You don't see that very often.

Never heard of it. The title suggests it might have the sort of dysfunctional family from Married with Children & Jim Henson's Dinosaurs.

In other news, Matt Chapman announced the return of Homestar Runner.

It's always a bit sad when a favorite series ends.

Or just stops updating.

I'm looking at you, Hanna is Not a Boy's Name.

But anyway, yeah, sorry. I can't say I really read Brawl in the Family - don't care too much for those gag-a-day video game strips - but I've got my own stable of webcomics that I'd be sad to see come to an end... and that I, at the same time, kinda want to see come to an end because goddamnit, Girl Genius has been going for over fourteen years they're nowhere near the end and I can NOT wait another decade or two to find out the ending just finish it up already please.

I hadn't heard of it either, but after having read a few comics, I'm laughing already.

For people who've been following it, I imagine the feeling must be similar to when Calvin & Hobbes concluded. It's a delightful little strip.

WAAAAAAAAAAA!

I loved that one. I feel the same way as when The Last Days of Foxhound ended, and this one doesn't even have a narrative structure to induce tears. Hopefully he can get in a few strips about the new Smash Bros. before ending things... wow. End of an era.

Looking back, my favourite strip was probably the one where Ridley uses the the 'Justin Bailey' code on Samus, but Cocoon Academy was my favourite 'arc'. Join me now in mourning and give honour to your favourite strips here.

If you are looking for more I really recommend Cucumber Quest and Paranatural. I read about a dozen comics but these are the best.

OT: It's always sad when a web comic finishes. I remember when 2p Start finished. It was a sad day. I am really sad Brawl is on it's way out, I always loved that comic.

I heard about that, but I was hoping it wasn't true. I love Brawl in the Family so much, that's so depressing. Then again, if he genuinely feels like he can't keep the quality up, I can't blame him. :(

Dang, that's sad. But it was a nice wee thing while it lasted.

I remember the first one I read on the IGN forums. It remains my favourite.
