Hey guys, I'm in need of weight loss advice, I'm at an extreme risk of developing a lot of heart diseases due to my heritage, and I need to drop weight and I was wondering if there was any advice you guys could give? Anything at all?
It seems whenever I begin exercising and eating healthy I put on weight?
Also due to my size, when I go for a lot of runs in a short amount of time, my knee plays up, anyway to counter this?
Thanks in advance

Don't run? My dad uses an elliptical at his gym because he has high arches. Especially, if you don't know how to run properly, you can seriously muck your joints up.

Well you say when you exercise and eat healthy you put on weight? Are you a guy? Because you are very likely to develop muscle quickly which will make you weigh more.

I'd say drink plenty of water and eat when you are hungry, but healthy things. If you try to starve yourself you are just going to mess up your metabolism and you are going to start storing fat like crazy. Don't drink diet soda.

Eating Avacado after exercise will super charge your metabolism and make you burn more fat. Don't eat it at other time though because it is fattening :p Yoga will also boost your metabolism.

I can recommend a calorie controlled diet like weight watchers (the online system is very good) but do NOT starve yourself.

If going for a run hurts your knee then switch to something else like swimming. There is no point in wrecking your leg for the rest of your life.

This.

All this advice was passed on to me from my body builder friend Dave, my friend Sabina who has a PHD in microbiology and Naomi a trained Yoga instructor.

Salad. Even a lot of salad (with low-fat dressing) is comparatively low on calories. Also, skip breakfast. And no snacks. That's pretty much all I did when I was trying to lose weight, and I ended up losing 20 pounds in about two months (with barely any exercise, though maybe try that too).

Do exercise that doesn't feel like exercise.
Yoga or swimming. Srsly, do BOTH. You'll be burning through calories, and you'll feel great (yoga really does make you more relaxed).

Don't do three big meals. Instead eat often but in smaller portions. This will boost your metabolism. Drink loooots of water even if you're not thirsty. You could also take some vitamin supplements that boost metabolism (take them with food though).

Feel good about yourself. Losing weight is just as physical as it is mental.

Just stop eating meat. Works like a charm (or a curse if you actually want to get bigger) /shameless agenda pushing.

For the first two months of your new lifestyle(because that is exactly what it's going to need to be from the sounds of it), don't bother implementing an exercise plan beyond walking and concentrate solely on eating right and getting into the habit of choosing good foods over bad ones. Changing one's diet is hard enough on its own. Throwing in an exercise routine with it right off the bat(particularly an unnecessarily difficult one as beginners are apt to do) will just lead you to get burned out really fast and give up.

Try swimming. Should be less stressful on your knees

What is this I hear about not running? Running is fine, if you work up your strength slowly and don't push yourself too hard when starting... hell you can even start with a walking regime. In any case, the human body is able to burn more calories by running than any other kind of exercise, so I would recommend it. My other advice is diet. In my opinion, weight loss is 75 per cent diet and 25 per cent exercise, you can lose weight extremely fast if you are willing to be hungry for a few weeks and then you can go back to eating normal food as long as you don't overdo it.

How big a fella are you? both in height and weight?

I'd give you the hint to go to a local gym, maybe some that your friends also use or may have used that they liked. Ask if they have anyone who can give you tips there on how to train.
If running is bad maybe long fast walking is also something to try out, a friends dad uses those running machines in gyms because he also has a knee problem.
But yeah, also start doing some weight lifting because that builds some muscle and they use fat to store energy so that'll automatically burn some.
Start easy, like monday wednesday friday like walk/jog, gym and walk/jog. Or if you want you can do four days like monday tuesday and thursday friday with walk/jog and gym two days in a row.
Of course it doesn't need to be those days they are just examples.
Best would be someone to give tips at a gym, they usually know what they're talking about. And when it comes to eating healthy, buy a cookbook and go through it and if you find cookig to be fun you can try and make some small changes to the foods there to make it better, or worse...
I haven't gone to school or anything but I'm fairly interested in stuff like this so ask and I'll see if I can help, but of course as I said a local gym should have someone who can help or direct you to someone (a physiologist) who can help you.

Sorry for the wall of text, got a bit excited -.-

Look up how to deal with diabetes and eat accordingly because that's basically how humans are meant to eat anyway.
I don't know how you live but if you eat allot lower your portion and base your meals around the practice of "half your meal of veggies, quarter carbs, quarter protein."
If you're quite overweight don't just go running and doing random exorcise, go see a physical therapist and get them to proscriber you exorcises.
If you do thing without knowing and haven't done any exorcise before your body wont be used to it and you can do more damage than good.

lastly good luck and push through because it will be hard.

Switch to 0 calorie soda, unsweetened tea, or black coffee. You would be shocked how much fat and calories people drink a day.

For example, a 16oz Starbucks Caffe Mocha has 250 calories, 8 grams of fat, and 42 carbs!

Otherwise,
1. Count calories.
2. Restrict your Saturated Fats.
3. Load up on healthy vitamins and minerals.
4. Do 20-30 minutes of moderate exercise per day. (I like to walk a mile or two at a fair pace.)

TL;DR
Don't eat garbage and get off your ass. =P

Fuck that. I'll eat avocado whenever I want, I don't care if it makes me the fattest man on earth!
It is quite tasty. ^^ When I was dieting I used to eat it as guacamole on ryvita.

It's not just about eating healthy foods, make sure you control your intake. Look around for what your daily intake for weight loss should be (depends on your weight, don't want to starve yourself) and stick to it. Aside from that, cardio's always good. If running messes with your knee, I'd suggest cycling or better yet swimming. Sit ups and other basic exercises you can do at home help too.

My suggestion, keep your calorie count at around 2000/day if you're a guy, also don't drink pop or juice(other than orange juice) drink water, full fat milk, and tea instead. Also do not eat bread, or shredded wheat cereal, if you eat cereal eat bran or oatmeal, trust me on this one, that shit is mean to your metabolism, also one good thing to remember, Dietary fat =/= body fat, caloric storage swells fat cells, that is how a person gets fat, if you eat high fiber diet of vegetables, spinnach and broccoli are great, for a lot of nutrients, eat them, also if you eat meat, steak and eggs is a GOOD breakfast, I know someone is going to "call me" on this, but cholesterol doesn't cause heart disease, high blood sugar does, cholesterol is what your nervous system is made out of, and without saturated fats your brain doesn't produce the endorphins and whatnot that you need to be able to feel happy, so don't avoid them.

On this diet I lost 80lbs in 6 months and I wasn't really doing anything extra for exersize either, just walking briskly for like an hour a day, in two 30min segments.

Good luck to you!
You can do it!

Well... if Cracked is to be believed... there is no advice that will help... at all...<.<

http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/fat-officially-incurable-according-to-science/

Just sayin...

Personally, the last time I was able to put off any weight for any amount of time was the last time I almost died... from a combination of malnutrition and pneumonia... the pneumonia causing the malnutrition obviously...

and this comes from someone who used to fast for a week at a time... whether intentional or not...

Though if you really want to... make sure you have something to chew on... always have something to chew on... preferably gum... it makes everything taste bad afterwards... but as long as you have something in your mouth you'll be good...

I feel your pain, I really need to loose some weight, too. Currently I've got a litte under 20 kilos (about 44lbs) extra and I hate it. I've stopped buying chocolate, crisps, cut myself off of Fast Food a month ago and started jogging. It's a pain and I don't have the stamina to jog for more than 30 minutes, but I see the need to get through this for some time.

I've started to cook myself whenever I have the time. There are a lot of great recepies you can find on the internet that taste great even if you don't like a lot of vegetables. Get yourself a healthy cooking oil with lots of Omega-3 and don't stop eating completely or eat too little. Even if it sounds odd, start a food diary for the first month (worked wonders for me!).
