Hey all. After eating some weird guava pizza today, it somehow got me thinking about allergies. Milk and nut allergies are common, but I've never heard someone who is allergic to guava or something. Anyone have any strange or uncommon allergies?

I have a weird one to a type of sulfur in medicine, but I learned it was more common than I thought. So what is uncommon?

I'm severely allergic to pineapple. If I eat even a little bit, my asophogus swells up to a point where I can't breathe anymore. It's happened to me before and waking up in a hospital suddenly after the last memory being eating a delicious pizza wasn't fun.

I have allergic reactions to tomatoes and penicillin, the former a mild reaction, the latter life threatening.

I'll ask my sister. She's the one who's alergic to a whole bunch of things.

I have heard that there are some who are alergic to WATER, though...

Me and my mom are allergic to Penicillin, but its only hives.
My godmother, though, well:
Shellfish
Chocolate
Dairy
Penicillin
and a bunch of other things.
Strangely, none are life threatening. She gets a REALLY bad stomachache and has to go to the doctor, but its not like she needs an epinephrine pen or anything.

It might be easier for you to tell you what I'm not allergic to...

If it is either an animal or outside, there is a very good chance that I'm allergic to it. I'm allergic to grass....freaking grass!!!

On the plus side, my only real serious allergy is Penicillin (may result in death). Everything else is just the terrible inconvenience symptoms like running nose, itchy eyes, watery eyes, etc.

On the plus side, I dodged the food allergy bullet somehow so I don't have to watch what I eat at least...

I'm allergic to bird fleas. Which sucks as my cat loves bringing them inside and all over me after mauling a poor bird somewhere.
I usually get 3-4 tiny bites on my arms that swell up to the size of nose.
Itch like crazy and if I don't take some kind of medicine it ends up looking like oozing burns.

My only other allergy is Citrus, but that is pretty common.

I'm allergic to onion. Which is a problem, because people insist on putting onion into EVERYTHING for no discernible reason. At least it's a very mild allergy. Just makes it really hard to breathe for an hour or so, plus some intestinal distress.

I have a very mild allergy to fluoride, yes the stuff that's in 99% of toothpastes.

Basically if I brush my teeth with a fluoride toothpaste it causes the lining of the inside of my mouth to peel off, kind of like what happens when you drink a really hot liquid and burn the inside of your mouth. It's not really a big deal though, and I usually don't bother even buying fluoride free toothpastes. They don't work quite as well and they're much more expensive.

I think, but I'm not sure, that I'm allergic to certain kinds of cats. Or at least the one cat (my cousin's) that always makes me sneeze. I guess it's something about that breed and its kind of hair.

I have a mild allergy to cephalosporins, though I'm only going by what my parents told me was a mild reaction when I was very young. Might not even be the case now, but my parents just never took the chance again. It doesn't really affect me in any significant way, so I count myself lucky in that sense.

Allergies? I sneeze when I see bright light, like the sun. Wish I was kidding. Does that count?

Bananas.

Also these-
No joke, one of these things almost killed me and ruined my life for two years before doctors could point to that being the thing that was making me pretty-nearly-dead. I was ill for two years, in constant pain, in and out of hospital and ended up having to be taken to A&E with septicaemia because of one of these things. Funnily enough, I joined the Escapist because of being housebound due to being so ill around that time.
Because being around one of those horrible things makes me rip my own skin off.

... I'm not bitter.

Aside from the dust and the usual Autumn-dominant air allergens. I have a(self-diagnosed)allergy to Green Giant brand mushrooms. After 3 instances of a head-to-toe rash, ingestion of mentioned mushrooms was the only commonality, and since I started avoiding that brand, I have had no repeat occurrences.

Mango and possibly kiwi, I haven't actually been tested but I have correlational evidence. Mango for sure though, I get a reaction every time.

So very sad, they are both delicious.

I have heard the water one too, it's just not a thing though. water is in everything. food, drinks, air.

That would be a <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photic_sneeze_reflex>Photic Sneeze Reflex. It's not an allergy. I have it too.

I'm allergic to raw potatoes. Not cooked potatoes, but raw ones. Because most people just go around eating them as their main snack food.

I don't know why that's something for which I was tested, but it was.

Actually, I don't have any allergies that I'm aware of (yet!), I just thought it fit.
