first off I am just awful with computers, to the point that I am surprised every time I successfully post.

anyway, I am trying to hook my laptop to my hdtv via a vga and audio cord, the problem is that the vga port on my laptop has white stuff in about 6-7 pin holes.

the question is, is this some kind of weird vga port I've never seen or did the laptops previous owner's 3 year old daughter put playdough in there?

Hmm, well if it's that kind of port it definitely shouldn't have white stuff in it...

like I said in the op, several of the pinholes are closed off by an unknown white material. the blocking looks like it was done intentionality. I suspect that it is playdough or something that was wiped off but never pulled from the holes. I want to know if this sort of "some of the pins blocked vga port" is a kind of port I've never herd of before I start trying to clean it out.

also any help on how to clean it out would be great.

I think you have no choice but somehow remove whatever it is filled with. I have no idea who or why somebody would do such a thing but it appears that it is sabotaged. :) I have no idea with what you should clean it but make sure the laptop is off and unplugged to be on the safe side. Since it is a hole u could try a very small needle but do not use anything that could break inside the hole like a toothpick. Simply try to scracth it out but not in.

Hope that helps.

I managed to get it out with a paper clip, and it works fine, thanks for the help.
