PC gaming will not die until consoles become upgradeable over time and have better controls. I hate to imagine playing a Total War game on my xbox, it'd probably lag and the controls would suck.

Has anyone else noticed that this entire thing is a V for vendetta reference. The speech is a tribute to V's speech when he takes over the TV station.
Also, why do we have to identify as PC gamers or console gamers? I play PC games and console games, I don't limit myself arbitrarily to one system or genre. Why would anyone do that? A lot of great games come out as console or PC exclusives, why miss out?

300 million?...Where they heck do they get that number? Yes, there are a lot of PC gamers. We already knew that, but 300 million is an EXTREME stretch.
Well, given there are 1 billion gamers in the world... [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.160475-EAs-Riccitiello-Over-a-Billion-Gamers-in-the-World-Today], it doesn't sound quite that much of a stretch.

In fact, it's only .3% of all gamers...pretty low really. Depending on what version of a billion we're using.

The ad was really quite cool. I'd be very excited if it were for the appearance of some new idealistic PC game developer/awesome pc game that takes the platforms strengths to a new level/something I could actually look forward to playing. But just an ad for a either line of pre-built gaming rigs or, at best, gaming netbooks with LCD keyboards? Just another well thought out ad campaign, trying too hard to sell something insignificant.

Depends how you cut that statistic. Are we counting people who played a video game once and are therefore listed? Is there any cross over between the numbers (Example, Are Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends' total player count being counted despite players belonging to both communities.)? How are they determining who the unique users are and who aren't? How do they count for the people who own multiple consoles and a pc gaming computer?

The numbers too large to be taken seriously. The thing about stats is that they tend to become more inaccurate with the increase in your target population. We really need a set definition for the term gamer, because under the current one, my 3 year old cousin, my 45 year old Aunt and my 2 year old cousin all count as gamers despite their only experience with it being an Iphone App.

As a console gamer by trade who has recently bought a gaming computer, I sure hope PC gaming isn't dying out!

Lets say 1 billion is 1000 million. Even if PC gamers consist of 300 million, the article says that there are more PC gamers than console gamers. That leaves at minimum 400 million gamers who don't play on a PC or Console, the majority.

So what do that majority of gamers play on?

I know this isn't it, but it would be cool if they partnered with valve, and to go along with it they released a trailer for a certain game which everyone has been expecting, but there I go fantasizing about shit. I am curious for what it actualy will be.

18 million people playing Cityville (presumably on a PC) daily. And that's specific PC gamers per day, I believe.

Steam has about 4 million users online at the moment. It's quite feasible really.

Well, you've got Teletext, iPhones, Androids, Oric, BBC, Commodore, Spectrum, iPad, Xbox, Playstation 1/2/3, Gameboy, DS, VCS, 2600, 400, 800, some TVs, Wii, Wii U, Game+Watch, Digital Watches...

But given EA's statement, I'm assuming they're saying overall. 30 million daily...which isn't that difficult to believe, is a fair old chunk. I'm guessing more than the Wii or the Mac.

Yeah, I'm with you. PC gaming isn't dead/dying.

Does anyone even carry that view anymore?

I'm a PC gamer, and I find this whole thing very silly.
Give the option of Keyboard and mouse on and a console and the term "PC gaming" will become extinct and the proper term will be "Gaming"

OT: I love Razer, but this is just them being smug. Also isnt the date on the letter the date for the new version of the Mamba coming out?
They already have option like that and they aren't as good. They are basically a mouse and nunchuck type thing and it is still not Gaming and never will be Gaming because companies like these feuds. Aside from that PC gamer is more than Kb+M that is just one of its main advantages.

OT: Nice little marketing campaign for whatever they are doing.

Casual stuff like iPhones and other things like PSP and DS which is the handheld market not consoles market which does seem a likely 400 million(Consoles+Handhelds).

This whole "war" between console and pc is stupid.
I own both.
Both do different things.
PC: tf2, halflife ( all of them) a huge indie population and tons of classics.
Console: Demons'/ Dark souls.
That is all.

Like I asked earlier, can they count for users who play both games and steam or that user counted 3 times?

I'm sorry, but I'm just a bit of a skeptic, especially when stats are involved.

hmmm, I would have thought either PC or Console would have been the majority, I guess more people buy handheld devices than I thought.

For DAU's, then the number is relevant - although you can't just add up DAU's for the reason you quoted.

It's in that ballpark though. Steam has over 20 million accounts in existence - and I'm reasonably sure they're going to be one to a machine because of Steamguard.

Zuckberg had 300 million on Bookface back in September 2009 [http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/software/3201927/facebook-passes-300-million-users-makes-money/]
