I think you have to sneak up on them and press [E]. The interface doesn't change, but you will tip it.

Go into sneak / crouch mode, walk on up to them and hit "E" or the action button if on a console.

Many of the indirect segments of Deus Ex: Human Revolution's area designs. There were quite a few sneaky areas in the first real "level" of the game that I just completely missed the first time I played the game because I was so used to the most direct path being the only way to proceed. And the first time I played, I snuck into the back of the police station and had to basically take out the entire building, whereas the second time I just talked my way through the front door.

Such a great game.
I talked my way into the police station the first time, but I've also hacked my way in and found an open entrance in. Now that the game is built like this is awesome in its own right, but the fact that it rewards you for finding the different paths really makes you want to seek them out. I wasn't sure if I wanted that game, but I bought it on day one and I didn't regret it for a second.
Geez, my list of games to replay keeps growing. I bought this about a year ago on a massie sale and got about 15 hours in, until I as in Beijing(?) then quit as I couldn't progress any further because I was so confused. That said, I had a terrible flu at the time and could hardly move, so I probably wasn't thinking well.

In Skyrim the Thieves Guild has marked every house and business as to what you can expect if you break in. There's a guide to those markings in the Thieves Guild. I think it was my fifth or sixth character that found that little guide.

Something that I already knew that was super handy, is that as long as no civvies or guards see you change into a werewolf, you can kill someone in town and your bounty won't go up. Though if you change in town your bounty automatically goes to 1,000 (excuse me sir, this is a no werewolf zone, please pay your fine and perform some community service).

drinking continuously in fallout 3 and new vegas occurs when you hold down the button. its something you apparently only learn on this website, in these threads and i know someone will read this and go "i didnt know that" haha
Yep. I posted this on Reddit a few months ago and hit the front page within an hour, and had my inbox filled with messages. Same thing a year or two ago on this site and again, inbox filled with messages. It's amazing that so many people STILL don't know about this.
What, drinking water? Is this news to people?

I did exactly that for an assassination within Whiterun. The target didn't seem to want to be anywhere private so it was hard to find a good moment to kill her. I was watching from afar with a bow ready but alas I couldn't find a good time. Eventually I gave up, left town, changed into a werewolf, ran back, ripped her throat out for all the little girls and boys to see, and left. Came back a while later and of course no-one bats an eye since they didn't know it was me. You'd think something like that would come with within the Companions though.

"So uh... I hear a werewolf tore a citizen apart while you were out. You wouldn't know anything about that, would you??"

OT: I remember hearing a while back about a FF9 sidequest that nobody discovered until a year or so ago; The Lost Nero Family Quest. It involved leaving the final dungeon on more than a handful of occasions (at specific times) and running to a somewhat obscure location in Lindblum to talk to certain characters who would appear. This one writes the meaning of obscure.

Any gameboy game that had Multiplayer with a Link cable that didn't require a extra cartridge. I got a link cable in middle school and me and My friends tried a bunch of games and found out they had multiplayer with one cartridge. Mario advance and Sonic Advance are the one's I remember

That you can get the Heart Tank in Boomer Kuwanger's level in MegaMan X without the Boomerang Cutter.
Just gotta use the charged Shotgun Ice.

I'd be massively surprised if there's ANYTHING left about that game that I don't know.

I didn't know you could hijack Atlas Mechs in Mass Effect 3, whenever you see one until my... fourth or so playthrough. I was in a really tough fight and losing badly, when my friend next to me says "Hey man, just hijack that mech." I paused the game and turned to him in total shock and asked him "How in the hell do you that?" I hijack almost every Atlas Mech now.
Ahhh...the things you can learn by looking at the achievement list before playing...

A weird thing I noticed was the strange kids in Goldshire in World of Warcraft. I know it's not new to everyone else, but I didn't look up any of the creepy stuff from WoW for a very very long time. It's only recently I noticed the kids were doing a weird formation in a room and then the music was weird too. Came across it completely by accident - I was just exploring - and then looked it up.

Not sure if this counts, but I just recently discovered the "Enemy Control" bug for Fire Emblems 7&8
Not only did I abuse the hell out of it by giving everyone I could dark magic it also made Myrrh (A character with a very specific item with a limit amount of uses) useable

Also recently learned that some enemy Aces spawn outside (and way in the back) in the Avalon mission in Ace Combat Zero
