Yesterday and yesternight, my Wii did some weird things. You know the light on the power button, well whenever it's turned off it should glow red, but now it's yellow when it's off. Another thing was when I went to bed I turned over and the cd input was flashing blue. There was a disk inside of it and I took it out. It stopped at first, but it did it again. So I unplugged it. It kind of freaked me out.

Whats wrong here?

Mine does the same thing, still works fine. I think Nintendo is just updating the hidden camera and mind control software.

As far as I know, the standby light is yellow not red when you've connected it to the internet. But yes, my disc drive occasionally flashes when it's in standby mode, but taking the disc out usually stops it.

I've experienced this as well. My theory was that yellow was like a low power mode, and that the Wii was still sort of on. It also seems like every time I've witnessed this, there was some kind of update from nintendo the next day. Maybe that's what the flashing means. It's downloading an update?

Edit: I didn't the the Wii was that sophisticated though...

The power button is red when it's plugged in but not been turned on at all, yellow when it's plugged in and been turned off (AKA: Stand-By mode) and green when it's turned on. I think.

And the disc drive flashing blue means that someone's sent you an message - usually Nintendo telling you about the latest update or new Mario Kart challenge. By sod's law, this will happen in the middle of the night and wake you up, much like it did with me yesterday. Grr.

Yellow light- standby while connected to the internet, turn on the Wii then hold down the off button until it turns red.

Blue light- It's so you know to check your wii mail. Nintendo should have sent a letter with an update on it.

I just checked my mail and Nintendo has sent me a message about the new features about the Nintendo Channel.

Isn't there an option in your Wii system menu to disable slot illumination? I'm pretty sure there's one, because I used it. My slot only illuminates when the Wii is in use (ie. being gamed on).

Yeah, I learned early on that turning the Wii off is a pain in the ass. I appreciate there's a standby mode, but it shouldn't be the default. Particularly since the Wiimote cannot be used to turn the system all the way off at all.

The yellow light means your Wii is connected to WiiConnect24, red light means you are not. The flashing blue light means you got a message. It could be an update from Nintendo, a friend sent you a message, or a Nintendo Channle/Check Mii Out update.
