Have you ever had a moment (be it while watching a movie/show, reading a book, playing a game or even a moment in real life) where you wished for something and then it came true, but in a way that made you go "Yeah, you know on second thought maybe not."

I'll start with the example that inspired this thread: A few days ago I started watching an LP of a curious little Visual Novel-type game by the name of Dangan Rompa
and there was one character who seemed really interesting but gets killed fairly early in, and I thought to myself "That's a shame, I wish we could've seen some more of her."

Long story short, turns out she faked her death and is actually the evil mastermind behind everything. Well, be careful what you wish for!

Once upon a time in ye olden days when i was a young lad... I was quite often ridiculed because i played video games (yes, i can see you know where this is going). I wished that gaming would be accepted as a perfectly normal Hobby...

My wish was granted!

...and now the gaming industry rarely caters for my taste in games anymore because they want to Appeal a very broad marked. Oh bugger!

When I was a kid I really wanted a sequel to Final Fantasy X. Now, FFX-2 is not a BAD game, but as a direct sequel to FFX? Oh boy...

- Well, I personally didn't share the sentiment as a kid, but I bet a shitload of people considered a movie with Batman and Superman in it their personal heaven when they were kids. Look what happened.

- As a teenager I dreamed of the day when I went off on my own, and could spend all day just playing video games. I've found it soul draining, wasteful, depressing and something I want to get rid of.

Here's an example:
I went to this house party one time.
The place was packed, it even had a DJ and a dancefloor.
Anyway, a short while after I arrived, this really gorgeous woman arrived as well.
I looked at her and thought: "Man, if I could have 1 dance with her tonight, that would be awesome."
About 10-15 minutes later, she was grinding her ass against my crotch and I didn't even say a word to her before that.
fun times.

Nooo? Wait, what? How can a wish come true if it doesn't come true in the way you wanted it?
Wishing for a good game and then getting a bad game doesn't mean your wish came true.

I wished for a good 3rd person shooter set in the 40k world as a Space Marine. I got Space Marine. Wish = True

I wished for Silent Hill 3 to be scarier than 2. It is. Wish = True

I wished for Resident Evil 5 to be just as good as 4. It was not. Wish = False

See how this goes? Wish for something good and don't take something bad as the fulfillment.

If the wish is only "I wish X merely existed! That would be so cool!", then it comes true if said X comes into existence at some point, whether it's good or not. For example, Batman v Superman.

Sounds like a problem with the initial order than anything on the fulfillment end. Hardly fair to get upset at the customer support when you never specified if you wanted your wish to be good or bad.

No More Heroes 2 was sure a letdown and the changes were made for the wrong reasons...

Oh, and I bet a lot of Evangelion fans thought "Man, if only the series could be remade with modern animation and a huge budget!" Look what became of it...

To be fair, had it not been for Anno having ANOTHER breakdown and Gainax literally splitting in two it probably would have turned out better. The preview for Q at the end of the second one was what the third movie was originally supposed to be, taking place directly after the second with no time skip.

I remember always being intrigued by the human mind, by everyone else's psyche as a teenager. It was mysterious and full of potential. But after much time learning and experiencing...i can say that, as the knowledge grows, it is still regularly disappointing. Aside some exceptions.

I think we should take a moment for something that was pretty universal in gaming.

Free games was one hell of a Monkey Paw wish wasn't it?

Does wishing to become an adult count? Because I regret every wishing that or becoming one.

As for games, I wished for Thief 4. It's another regret on my part.

A lot of people wished for some plot progression from Games Workshop. Whoops.

I also wished my facial hair would grow faster. Now I have pretty fast growing facial hair that looks fucking horrible. As in it looks exactly the same on my face as it does when I pull it out of the drain after shaving. It makes my chin look like a boar's snout. It looks like what might grow on a jacket tatie with cheese if you left behind the fridge for a few years. It looks like what you get from emptying the fluff filter on condenser tumble dryer. It looks like I put Pritt stick on my face and rubbed my chin on a cat.

On the other hand, it covers my face up a bit.

Pretty much this for me too. Especially considering I'd gotten tired of Dishonored because it felt like an average Thief fan mission- and then I played Thi4f and got tired of it because it felt like an average Dishonored fan mission.
