Everybody knows this one, but I'm going to say it anyway. The ending of Fallout 3 is pretty much known universally for it's 'missing-the-obvious' solution (well, preBroken Steel Fallout 3). You're sent into a radiation chamber, and you have one of a range of followers with you. Most likely, Fawkes or Charon. Fawkes can survive in radiation, and Charon is healed by radiation. Nevertheless, you or another character are sent to their pointless deaths, mostly because someone was a bit of a cock.

So, what moments are there in TV, Films or games that could have easily been solved if the characters were thinking straight? Or the writers weren't stupid.

In Halo: Contact Harvest
They should of offered meat instead of watermelons to the huge bone-crushing toothed creatures.

oblivion- why leave the amulet of kings at a church? keep it in the castle, THEN find martin. the castle would be a much safer place against a prince of destruction than a fucking church

The sewers lead directly into the Imperial palace. If someone REALLY wanted to break in and steal it, it wouldn't have been that hard with a big enough force (which they had).

The priory was a better idea because of the unlikelyhood that anyone would suspect that it was being kept there.

COD4. why the fuck didnt the Baseplate prepare the escape route instead of sending a chopper that is DELAYED? you are chased by fucking scores of spetsnaz, Zakhaev and a Havoc. its because of them that Gaz died.

Well if they scripted it so that one of those two had to go in at the end, then people who didn't have either Fawkes or Charon with them wouldn't be able to finish the game, would they?

oblivion: let me hang on to the amulet of kings! seriously! level 45 "lord crusader" god of madness with spells and holy armour who's undefeatable because of his healing spells, has a 200 damage within 20ft shock spell, arrows that do 100 damage, can summon xivilai at will and a great big enchanted sword! but nooooooooooo, we'll keep it in a priory, a small one at that. let the knights of the nine guard it at least! failing that why not take it to cloud ruler temple in the first place!

I see your point, but then I think you might be missing mine.

What we have left, after the decision to not have a work-around script, is an incredibly obvious plot hole.

And finally, I get the impression that you haven't played Fallout 3, simply from the fact that people could finish it, as any other companions could go in and do it. they'd just die. The other two, however, wouldn't, and it was that that made the decision so incredibly stupid.

The shitstorm that caused the events of Alien 3 could have been easily avoided if Ripley had just been a little more patient and not pressed every freaking elevator call button when the queen was chasing her in Aliens.

I have played it, but I haven't got that far because I've been busy with other games lately.
I do understand what you mean, but with regards to sending one of the other followers (ie. not Fawkes or Charon) in, from a storyline point of view, it wouldn't make sense.
I mean, how could your character ask them to sacrafice themselves when you aren't willing to do the same? Especially for a good karma character, that would be entirely out of character.

Very easily. The whole idea of Fallout 3 is to play it as you would do it in real life - that's why there's a Neutral karma. Just because you freed a couple of slaves in Paradise Falls doesn't mean you'd be willing to give up your life when there's another person who'd willingly do it.

It's all about that grey area.

Oh, and what if I were a bad karma character? I'd still have to sacrifice myself, even though I've killed every good character I've met so far.

So, back to my original point - the ending sucks, and there are so many ways around it.

Terminator Salvation, I shall play this out in the form of a conversation between Skynet and a Terminator so that you can best understand my point:

Skynet:
Terminator: "Right, so let's go kill him!"
Skynet:
Terminator: "What? Why? We have him can't we just finish him off and win the war?"
Skynet: <NO, WE MUST PLACE HIM IN AN EASILY ESCAPABLE JAIL CELL AND LEAVE HIM AS BAIT FOR JOHN CONNOR TO RESCUE WHILE WE MOBALISE OUR TROOPS LEAVING A HUGE GAP IN SECURITY AND LEAVING OUR BASE PRIME FOR A NUKE ATTACK>
Terminator: "....uhhhhhhhh."
Skynet:
Terminator: "Won't that make him want to rebel?"
Skynet:
Terminator: "Some super intelligent military software you turned out to be, Skynet."

So yeah.... that's my answer

I just want to add another one actually... Jurassic Park 3. If Ellie in the end was able to easily send the navy and the army to the Island in the end, couldn't they have just done that to rescue the kid from the beginning?

If you remember, they hadn't seen the Brutes until that point, they'd only seen the Jackals, who apparently eat melons. Or something. It was a silly book, worst of the Halo books I've read so far.

Well if the writers of G.I Joe had been thinking straight, they wouldn't have written that STUPID, AWFUL movie.
