A friend and I have been playing through a few recent shooters co-op as a way to give him some more experience with the genre (He generally doesn't play FPS or TPS games at all). We both recently found Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City for $7 and figured it couldn't be as bad as most professional reviews were making it out to be...

Needless to say, we were horribly wrong and now need to find something else to work on. Any recommendations? We're both using PS3s as our main gaming consoles, so Gears of War and Halo are both out.

Mandatory Borderlands mention. I don't like it, but a lot do. 50 Cent Blood on the Sand is a good time if you don't mind goofy awesome bullshit. Also, Army of Two. The first and second games are both awesome, haven't played Devil's Cartel.

I will always contend that Saints Row the Third has one of the most flawlessly executed co-op campaigns ever.

There are some subtle differences to be aware of between co-op and single player though. In single, you lose your wanted rating as soon as you step into a building you own. In co-op you both have to be in an owned building in order to lose your rating. The good news is that once you or your buddy start a mission you both get pulled into it so you effectively push the main story together.

A few people here on the forums criticize SR3 because it wasn't as "serious" as SR2, but I never played it. From my viewpoint, SR3 was a godsend considering that I was so disappointed with GTAIV. I was expecting GTA to be at least as entertaining as San Andreas but I was wrong. Saints Row the Third made up for that disappointment.

I liked Far Cry 3's co-op which can be played online, however if you do so with randoms you'll likely play the levels in a random order, depending on whatever the host wants to do. Makes getting all the achievements a pain in the arse -.-
Also Modern Warfare 3 had a fun online co-op thing. Not a campaign as such, but there were a series of missions that tied in to the solo campaign, and they were quite fun. Also survival is good but that's not a campaign.
