this whole thing is effing ridiculous, 1. it is a PICTURE 2. even real rapists get less than 20 years 3. there is a scene in hostel two where a grown man shoots a child in the head, yet eli roth make hundreds of thousands of dollars while this guy with a comic boock gets sent to jail, HOW DOSE THAT MAKE SENSE?????
It does not make sense to any sane person.

thank you for agreeing and proving that you have a brain unlike the people who think he deserves to be aressted

I don't see how it hurts ANYONE unless real people were involved (ie photographed) in the making of this manga. Or hentai. Or whatever it was, i just skipped through the post.
It was Yaoi not even child porn by any stretch. This guy is getting owned because the drawings do not give away the fact that the characters are actually eighteen plus as per the plot itself.

Oh, but I do!
Basically it's little kids. Pedophilia more or less though not necessarily pornographic in nature.

Wait, I take it back!EW!EW!EW!
I told you so.

Just so we can judge for ourselvres.

(You're not falling for this, are you?)
I was just asking because if the child in question is over 16, they have a better case.
the problem is that allot of these comics don't specify age, and because of the way their drawn, it can be very difficult to come to a conclusion on what age the characters are. Especially for someone who doesn't normally read them. I'm sorta on the fence. While I don't think Lolicon and other similar mangas are healthy, I'm more scared by the idea that this censorship may eventually spread to American comics and other mediums. I've got a quote here from Niel Gaiman, who is supporting Handley

?I wrote a story about a serial killer who kidnaps and rapes children, and then murders them,? Gaiman said, referring to a storyline in ?The Doll?s House.? ?We did that as a comic, not for the purposes of titillation or anything like that, but if you bought that comic, you could be arrested for it? That?s just deeply wrong. Nobody was hurt. The only thing that was hurt were ideas.?

I think in the end I side with him, even if I dont feel comfortable with some manga, Im even less comfortable knowing that a cop could arrest me for something a jury doesnt like in my comic book collection.

Wait, I take it back!EW!EW!EW!
It's still a stretch though...that's like saying pictures of your children in their bathing suits is 'more or less' paedophilia, then again, I guess it would be in the hands of a paedophile...

Still, as for the outcome of this trial, the guy is currently spending 20 freaking years in jail for his 'crimes', even if you agree with the material in his possession being wrong, can you still honestly say that this is a -just- sentence? It's already been said here in this thread...there are far worse crimes, that get far more lenient sentencing that this.

But of course...being as is, because of that same content, it's okay for us to sit back and relax, a disgusting person has gone to jail, for, well...being disgusting. Right?

It's not a stretch loli is just a short form of lolicon which is itself a short form of Lolita Complex. The term derived from the novel Lolita.

Nono, not the terminology, the usage: i.e: All Lolicon material = Child Porn, despite that not all Lolican material -is- actually pornographic. Unless of course one considers even a fully clothed lolicon figure in a non-erotic pose as also being pornographic.

After some thought I'm going to go with the freedom of expression people. As distasteful as I find the subject I read manga that could be deemed just as offensive for other reasons. It would be hypocritical to put this guy away.

Not that I like it but often drawing lolicon, or depicted child porn or any form of art, can be a psychological release from not having these actualities in real life, so if you remove a persons ability to fantasize about these misdeeds in an entirely safe way then it might start to leak even further into society.
After all, it's just ink on paper.

You're right, there is a fine line for censorship. I don't believe in most censorship, other than snuff and rape films, we don't need it. People should not be arrested for pencil art and text, no matter how obscene.

It comes down to this: Do you want money and resources going to protect drawn characters or real children?
