Well my parents went through a divorce and if you manage to do it cleanly and speak to each other with a degree civility afterwards instead of going around the house ranting about how much you hate each other then he shouldn't take it to badly, unless whoever gets custody pulls some batshit crap and tries to prevent the other parent from seeing him then that will be bad.
Also it sounds like you'll have a good chance of getting custody seeing as you own the house (assuming it's in your or your mothers name) and you have a steady job. Is he in school yet? Because that argument will help you in regards to getting custody.
Whatever you do avoid arguing in front of your kid because that is a real **** of a thing to deal with and no matter how he takes it, it will stick with him.
