I swear some people shouldn't be allowed to own their own homes.

Today I saw a house, on the way back from Uni, that had light-up Christmas Elves out in the front garden, in OCTOBER!

I love the holiday season just as much as anybody else, in fact probably more than a lot of people, but one thing I cannot stand about Christmas is when people begin to put up decorations ridiculously early. I mean it hasn't even been Halloween yet and people are putting these things out? I think it's totally daft and detracts some of the sense of occasion from Christmas when you see them around for so long.

What are your opinions on the timing of decorations?

I completely agree... though it seems nature is catching up with us. It snowed last night where I live. In MASSACHUSSETTES. It shouldn't snow here in October! I know the weather here is insane, but COME ON!

Wow, haven't seen any of those, that's a bit crap.

I've just seen adverts really, but that's to be expected by now.

Annoying when you emerge from the woods after a night of bear wrestling and wonder what the time and date is.

I've seen a house that had christmas decor up all year round for a few years, think they eventually took them down.

I guess they just don't care for halloween and decide to go straight to Christmas, Halloween has gotten a bit crappy in my opinion since every decoration has a smile on it...

I miss the good Halloween.

maybe the elves are for halloween. they might cover them in real fake gore and craft hatchets onto their little hands.

apart from that, we don't get over-zealous decorators here.

I've already seen some EuroDisney Christmass ads on TV.

I guess that's all Christmass is in the end; BUY, BUY, BUY.

What's more annoying is people who never takes there lights down. Seeing Christmas lights up in march is tacky. Also, I really hate the fact that Christmas shopping keeps starting earlier and earlier. There is already Christmas stuff at the store and its only October!

Good God people Thanksgiving hasn't even passed!
I find that really annoying, it's even more annoying when companies start advertising Christmas on the radio.

I've been seeing chocolate advent calenders since about halfway though September.

Some people where I live haven't even bothered to take down the lights from last year, they just don't turn them on. I find it stupid, and slightly amazing that they haven't been stolen yet.

I think that 3 weeks prior to Christmas is the perfect time to put up the decorations. It's after Thanksgiving but gives enough time for the decorations to be enjoyed.

I hate overlapping holiday decorations, a Jack O' Lantern should never be next to Frosty. They don't get along

There's this guy near our house who has hundreds of christmas decorations and thousands of lights, which he starts to put up around Thanksgiving. It's so cool to see all that christmasy stuff in one yard.

I'm gonna quote my avatar here: "All the people who put up those annoying christmas lights have been affected by the recession, now they've all got to band together and just get one big light with 'scum' on it."

There are several houses in my area that keep their lights up all year round but only turn them on nearer to Christmas. I hate Christmas.

So, you have the same thing going on there too: Christmas seems to come a bit earlier every year. I can understand the desire to put some lights on your windows and such now that we have entered the dark season, but to dig out all the flashiest Christmas decorations on October feels like an overkill. Dear god, soon I´ll probably be hearing Christmas carols right after Midsummer. What´s even funnier, to counter our over-enthusiasm nature loiters on its way more and more every year. If we´re lucky, we might have something resembling winter by January.
