Personally, I think the Mayans only had themselves in mind when this prophesy was made.

My guess is that the last person with Mayan blood will die on the 21st. Or in other words, it's the end of the world... for the Mayan bloodline.

Apparently there's a specific time (11:11 GMT/UTC) that it's supposed to happen, so that's why we've not all exploded yet.

Not here it isn't. Still got at least three hours until 12:00 am on the 21st December and even then if anything is happening that day, it won't be for a long while.

On a less serious note, all these threads and things about and related to the Mayans' prediction for the 21st have created this image in my head of one of those Mayan Prophets looking into the future and seeing the mixture of "Meh"s and people genuinely taking this thing seriously, standing at the top of one of their temples and yelling out into the gathered crowd of citizens "Our prank worked pretty well! We weren't able to trick them all but a fair number of the future peoples fell for it." or something along those lines... Then they'd say "Now remember to mark the actual date for the doomsday as [Classified] in your personal Calender Discs and be here tomorrow for the organised Sacrifice bought to you for our gods!".
... The last part of that sentence suddenly makes me wonder why people are taking this seriously.

I was wondering about the specific time, thanks for posting that. Now I know exactly how long I got to live. Now that's a load of my chest right there.

It's only 9:20am here in Alberta, Canada. So is the world going to end systematically by time zone?
Yeah, this. It's 9:24 in BC. In fact, it's still the 20th.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, it's still the 20th here.

Just barely hitting the afternoon of the 20th....I guess the Mayans don't take time zones into account.
Well, it doesn't say when, does it? Maybe it takes time to warm up or something. Like a Death Star, or a fluorescent light bulb...Of Doom.

You fools, saying that nothing will happen on the 21st!

Anyway, it's 12:41 pm here in New York on the 20th, but I imagine that if the Mayans even did predict the end of the world, they'd have the local time in mind.

We can't forget that they didn't account for leapyears and all that either so it might not actually end on our 21st... that being said im pretty sure that the world isn't gonna end period

Just remember: ANYTHING that happens during ANY TIME of the 21st ANYWHERE will be taken as a win by doom-predictors. Happened before... will happen again (proviso the world, you know, not actually ending...)
