Well that was easier/harder than I remember.

I played WarCraft III when it came out, and could not get past the Silvermoon levels without cheating.

I replayed it again recently, and massacred those elves within half an hour. I have no idea what it was I was missing the first time around.

I always got stuck on the Night Elf campaign, on the mission where you free Illidan. I couldn't get past it and never finished it. I think it's time for another go. (Dalaran gave me a lot of problems too).

I replayed Panzer Dragoon Orta a while ago. PDO and JSRF were the first two games I ever got for my original Xbox. PDO was, by far, one of the easiest games I had owned and one of the funnest to boot. As I picked it up and ran through it again I realized two things.

1.) Not much of a storyline is there? Its more like random occurrence to push you forward.

Seriously. I had no idea what was going on 90% of the time. I was completely lost for the most part and the only thing that barely helped was beating the game and then going back and beating all of the other side story missions.

2.) Either I was gaming Jesus back then or I've just grown to suck as I age.

Its true. I struggled with a few parts in this game and I couldn't level my dragons as fast as I remembered being able to when I was younger. One part in particular I had trouble with is towards the end when you must destroy the dog looking drones as they're being built, blowing up boss monsters before being forced out of the room, and running through tunnels trying to dodge walls and kill enemies at the same time. All of this really made me just scream in my own head "SHIT. DAMN. SHIT. DAMN." over and over.

I bought Vietcong recently. It's a lot easier then I remembered. Especially when it came to the Vietnamese tunnel network level. Fuck I hated that level with a passion :p

When I played Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara's Adventure back... what, 7 years ago or so, it was really, really difficult and it took me months to beat the final boss. But going back to it recently, while it still wasn't the easiest game ever, I quickly found myself breezing through the game, other than the last couple fights which were still a bit tough.
Still, it was much easier than I remember it being.

My buddy had an Xbox with a bunch of old NES and arcade games on its hard drive. I played some of those old-school arcades like the Simpsons, X-men, and Ninja Turtles beat 'em ups. Those games were far easier than I remembered. Conversely, Most of the Nintendo games I tried were soul-crushingly hard. Stupid Battletoads and The Immortal.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I recall Freebird on Guitar Hero 2 (Expert mode) kicked my arse repeatedly for a while. I put it down for a few months and then tried the song one night while sleep deprived and blazed through with a solid 4 stars. A few days later I gave it a try again and managed 5 stars. I took a picture and posted it to my Facebook page cause I'm a dork.

Goldeneye. Bloody pus-spewing dicks, I never could even beat the Dam on 00Agent back in the day, now I fly through all but the Caverns, Cradle and Aztec.

Oh, and the Train. That shit gave me problems.

Super Mario Bros. The complete opposite to the former, it used to be easy for me, now I find myself dying twelve times per level.

Escape Velocity Nova rings a bell here, I remember I had the trial and could not get anywhere fast, took me so long and I was still only in the second or third worst ship.

I came back to the game a year or two later and start anew, before you know it, I'm the biggest badarse in the galaxy, I'm even best friends of the Polaris (an inherently unfriendly race), who keep on giving me cool shit like stealth ships and awesome missiles, thinking everything was the best it could be, they gave me a Raven, I was like death incarnate for the galaxy, flying around with auto tracking front laser beams of doom, the ability to jump half the galaxy in one hyperspace (which would take a usual ship, 15/20 minutes + refueling) and on top of all that, I had the capabilities of aforementioned stealth ship and mega missiles of pain.

Star Fox 64: The Venom Hard Route

I spent well over 176 lives trying to beat it ONCE as a kid, then another 150 or so trying to replicate the results after my memory card got wiped (Through circumstances which I will not describe) only to give up and move on then the game-cube came out, now...I went back and beat it on my first try, with next-to-no effort.

Made me realize just how far I'd come, both as a gamer and as a person, since my childhood...

I bought the God of War Collection and was replaying the first two games in the series. They were quite a bit harder than I remember them, and much harder than GoW III was.

Also, Hercules: Action Game for the PS1, I used to breeze through it as a kid, but I played it the other day and I got my ass handed to me.

Counterstrike. There was a time I was good at it, but now I just suck. I can do well in the DM servers where you respawn immediately, but I'm far too impatient to play the bomb plant/hostage rescue game modes, it's probably because the only FPS's I play now are arena ones, or ones that allow you to play fast and be somewhat effective. (COD, BF2 etc)

I had this a few years ago with Vanguard Bandits. Bought the game when it came out (I was 14 or 15 at the time, not sure). Then I decided to replay it before moving out of my dads house to go to university, because I was gonna get rid of most of my old games. While going through the piles to see which I'd keep, I saw VB and remembered all the good times and ass-kickings. I also remembered the game being ball-bustingly hard. I decided to give it another go and was surprised to find I could pretty much beat the whole game without the least bit of effort, strategy or interest (I would read a book or watch tv at the same time). I guess all the years of playing SRPGs inbetween just made me better at those games.

Yeah, I recently replayed Turtles in Time with my friend. That was an absolute cakewalk.

I have never been able to even approach that game. It's probably the only game that has stayed consistently impossible for me.

I do that all the time with rhythm games. Hammerhead(Offspring), Sleepwalker(Megadeth), Visions(Abnormality), Panic Attack(Dream Theater), this list goes on. Couldn't beat any of them on drums for the life of me. I come back a couple months later, I gold star all of them. (Except for Visions, I still fail on that a lot, but at least I cleared it.)

Oh god Aztec, oh how I hate that level. If memory serves that's the level where Baron Samedi keeps resurrecting yes? That's the only level in that game that erected a brick wall in front of me. I don't think I ever cleared it on 00.

No, Aztec's the one where you have to alter the rocket's coding or whatever, and kill Jaws. Baron Samedi was in Egyptian, which was a cakewalk on margarine boots, and I flew through it with absolutely no effort whatsoever. Samedi fell before my Golden Gun no problem. Not sure how it could've brick walled you, considering to get to it, you have to have beat every other level on 00, and by that time, it should be a joke.

Guess I'm just weird. Then again, I found the Train to be one of the game's most difficult levels, and STILL haven't gotten the cheat from it (it and Invincibility from the Facility are the only two left).

Ah yes, it was Egyptian. I honestly don't know why I had such a hard time with Samedi, but I couldn't beat him on 00. Egyptian and the Ship level were the only ones that gave me problems. I never had much of a problem with Aztec because of those awesome lasers with infinite ammo.

True, Moonraker lasers were awesome. Still though, that level kicked my ass for a while before I finally beat it. The Frigate I found not too much of a problem on 00Agent, but getting the cheat on Secret Agent was a bugger. Can't let TOO many hostages die, can't get lost along the way (my biggest problem, by far), can't accidentally shoot the computers and explode myself. 'twas a total pain, indeed. I was eventually successful.

If you still have the game, dig it up and beat Egyptian - you get the All Guns cheat for doing it - awesome with infinite ammo from Control.

Unfortunately I don't. I'd borrowed it from my cousin a good while back, and just recently returned it over Thanksgiving. If I find it cheap somewhere I'll definitely pick it up, I feel like playing it again now.
