Last week I finished high school and was all excited about going away to schoolies. Monday came around and my friends and I were packing ours cars and began our convoy to the river where we were going to spend the week. Less than half way my cars head gasket decided to blow up and completely ruined my car... So schoolies was a very enjoyable experience for me... NOT!

Do any of you have similar stories to this, where you were so excited about going somewhere but never made it, or got there but couldn't get home.

Going with the last one: I had spent 10 days in Bali last month and was so excited to be going home. The problem was that my step-mother is not the brightest spark and didn't check the flight schedule. We had missed our flight by 24 hours! It cost my dad $3500 to get us all home the following morning.

WTF is "schoolies?"

On topic - My friends and I were headed down to Mexico for the weekend in 2 cars. An asshole on a motorcycle crashed into my buddy's car (at about 110 miles per hour) when we were about halfway to our destination, and completely destroyed the rear of the car to the point where it couldn't even drive. 2 people in the car were injured, and the guy on the motorcycle was half dead.

I was on my way to see a girl who lived about an hour away, when my car died out of nowhere on the highway. As it was rolling, I pull it to the side and tried jumping it with a battery pack, but to no avail. I call a tow truck to take me, my car, and my big blue balls home. Oh that was hell.

Me and a group of eight friends were going to the beach and on the way there not one but both cars break down in the middle of rapeville USA and we have to hoof it twenty five miles back to town cause we had no cell reception it took us seven hours to get back to town because the three girls in our group had nothing on but flip flops and kept complaining about how hot it was and made the guys carry everything.

Schoolies is pretty much just a huge party for all of the students who finish high school.
The Aussie version, apparently it's cool for the entirely of Australia's Year 12 population to go upto Queensland for 2 weeks and party nonstop. One giant convention for fuckheaded teenagers. I for one am staying right at home during Schoolies.
In South Australia they all go to Victor Harbor. And what you said is pretty much why me and some friends were going to a shack up the river.

Well I tried to organise going to schoolies with all my friends but they ended up deciding they didn't want to go. So then I tried to organise a party or something instead. They didn't want to do that either. So I spent schoolies week at home being bored mostly. Found out a week later that they actually ended up spending the night having great fun drinking, cruising and generally mucking around. They didn't think to invite me. I'm still pissed about that.

My family and I went on a a rode trip to Yellowstone. We passed the Badlands, got stuck at that fricken tourist trap Wall Drug, but survived. The problem was Yellowstone itself. Apparently the dealer failed to tell us that our souped up Dodge Durango has a chip in it that glitches at x amount of feet above sea level. Then things start to fail things like power steering, the coolant system, you know little things like that. Well stalling out in a tiny Durango with a 27 foot trailer behind you is a bad bad thing and we almost drove right off a cliff. My dad ended up pushing the panic button and the trailer itself stopped us.

We had the Durango looked at and in the mean time was stranded at the best KOA ever. Heated pool and a HOT Hottub (103 degrees, awesome), free fudge samples, and Yellowstone itself was very cool. We stayed there a week longer than we planned on because the dealership messed up the car worse than it already was. Now Drive was really reverse and so on and so forth.

In the end we made it back home, but still it was scary for a while.

Wanted to do some band rehearsals so we could record some takes before a new singer comes around (we want her to get the best impression possible) and then my amp went silent (brandnew - only 3 weeks old). :p GAH!

So basically an aftergrad party huh?

OT: I've had engine difficulty before. Last winter my Geo Metro [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.315830-Redlins-EXTREME-30K-Review-The-Geobat] (which I just sold) lost its alternator. I had to push the damn thing, in -20 degrees Celsius weather, five blocks to my house.

Also your title threw me back into the 90's when I was on the playground saying stuff and adding "NOT!" after a short pause...
