Ok playing Okami ok game but I got to this part where you have to push a bee hive to a bear. The physic are odd and it's pretty hard. I admit it took me over 2 days a 3 rage quits but I did it. My reward I though would be great since all the effort that went into it.
20 prise which is the up grade points in the game. Sound like a lot but you can get close to that for pretty easy stuff.

So my fellow escapist anything in a game make you think. I wait x amount of my life.

Whenever I try to go for shinies in Pokemon Games. I've found three shinies, not counting red gyrados, all by luck. I tried for about 6 hours the other day to chain fish for a shiny poliwag, before I gave up and realized shiny hunting just isn't for me.

Feebas in the old Sapphire and Ruby games. Not worth it. Even for a Milotic, not worth it. I spent WAY TO LONG trying to find that damn ugly fish.

just wanted to say i got feebas on my first serious attempt on like the 20'th tile i checked. took less than 30 minutes. :p

OT: i can't think of anything off hand. if i do something and succeed, i'll feel accomplished and it'll all be worth it no matter how long it takes. and if i fail, then i wouldn't say my time was wasted as i'll enjoyed the time spent. also, i like being defeated, so there's that too. it's always a pleasure to find a challenge that can defeat me.

Puzzling my way through the Gerudo Fortress to get the ice arrow wasn't really worth it in Ocarina of Time, because it's a bonus item, and there's no real need for it. I never felt like I was missing anything when I didn't get it. Getting a good enough time on Malon's obstacle course to get that cow to show up at Link's tree house wasn't really worth it, either. I could just go to Lon Lon Ranch and play Epona's Song to the cows there to get milk, why would I put in the extra effort for a special one that isn't at all different?

Getting all the damn Riddler shit in Batman: Arkham X. Seriously, it's never worth it. You think you want to just to punch that smug sack of riddles in the dick, but you don't even get to do that, do you? No, you cutscene defeat him, or even just listen to the cops grab him over the radio. What would justify answering all his riddles and collecting all his trophies would be a sequence where you get to do an infinite combo on his douchey little face, whenever you want. While he begs for forgiveness.

Ahhhh, just picturing it makes my day better.

Chain fishing is a picky thing. I went to try for a Poliwag once, went for over 200 tries, found nothing. A similar thing happened when trying to get a shiny Clauncher, with a similar amount of tries.. I tried again for the Poliwag, just moving to a different spot and starting again, and I found it pretty early. All the shinies I have found through this method have been around 40 encounters or earlier, never over 100. That said, you were sitting near a wall/rock/obstacle and using sticky hold/suction cups, right? You know you can run away and still continue the chain, correct? Sorry if these are stupid questions, I'm just trying to help out. It was 6 hours, after all...

Similar thing. I've been trying for a shiny Skarmory since D/P/Pt. I've tried for hours on multiple occasions to chain one in those games, to no avail. Never much over 15 encounters. Too rare, and the weather doesn't help. Most of the time is spent finding the first encounter...that's always the way with chaining. I actually reset the game, sometimes when it's being reluctant, and it works.

So I try to hatch one in X/Y using the masuda method. Over 1000 eggs, fuck this. I got my Archeops and Barbaracle pretty early on with Masuda, though, all things considered, and with the same Ditto. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Also the final boss of Dark Chronicle. I just don't know how. And that's one of my favourite games. Similar thing, the final, hardest challenge in Timesplitters 1. Too daunting. Seemingly too based on luck. Eventually it got to the point where it didn't seem possible for my skill level, so I gave up. I'd probably be able to do it with a mouse.

Any of the DLC weapons / armor in Monster Hunter. The monsters you need to fight for these rewards are beefed up to a ridiculous degree and the end result is that you get a weapon that is nowhere near as good as the corresponding endgame weapons.

The only reason I do these quests is to see if I can beat the monster. If I do manage to beat it at least once, I never return to it, unless it was really fun to fight it.

beating the last boss in beyond good and evil. I keep wanting to either break my controller or put my head through a wall. As such, I haven't played it on my 360 in a long while. And I haven't played on my computer(though I'm nowhere near there) in a week but that's more I've been distracted by other things.

And attempts to really do anything in Surgeon Simulator. But that's mostly just slowly adjusting to it. And remembering not to play it when tired or inebriated.....

The "Niflheim" sidequest in Symphonia 1...

There's a pretty "late" sidequest you can do in the Skybak library, where you have a chance to destroy a specific evil book... The whole time you're doing this sidequest, not only should you not die from the "extremely hard" enemies/boss that you have to record in your bestiality to fully get it at 100% at that point, but also making sure that your "soulfire" does not reach 0 and you fail the sidequest... (i.e. die, basically) There's also these "random" instances where a certain effect would be placed on each floor of the sidequest; some of them are good for you while others are either bad if you do a certain thing wrong or choose the wrong AOE placed on the floor... Once you reach a particular floor (it's the same every time), you face that floor's boss and you either continue on further (because it wasn't the final boss of the sidequest) or the sidequest ends and you get to choose to either burn the evil book or leave it alone and try again later... I usually choose to not destroy the book because it was a pretty cool and always interesting place to level grind before finally facing off against Mithos, the end-game boss... Apparently, due to how this sidequest was like the Tales series' [early] equivalent to SMT's dungeon crawling aspect, as in "random" and "challenging" for the most part, none of my friends could ever complete this particular sidequest... However, I barely took me 10 minute to complete it on my first go, despite being really underlevel compared to what my friend's levels were when they tried it out... (Talk about an "over-hyped-super-hard-sidequest-of-a" sidequest...)

Spoiler-free condensed version: Any of my friends who tried this sidequest died almost instantly after starting it... and I went into it, REALLY underlevel compared to their levels, and completed it in under 10 minutes... Seriously? I even choose the wrong option and decided to replay it again just to see if that was it... (and it was...)

I thought if you collected 50 gold scarabs in Ninja Gaiden Black on normal, then did another normal run and collected 50 gold scarabs again, you would be able to get the Dark Dragon Blade to play around with.

LOL NOPE

You have to do a run of at least Hard while collecting 50 gold scarabs then. What a waste of time...

I finally got the fuel connectors I needed to get to the Mun and back in KSP, and then I landed awkwardly in one of the craters on the highlands. My parachute fell off. Jeb is still stuck there.

I always liked the FFXII maneuver of making the best weapon in the game a pain in the dick to get. Basically, there's a chest. It contains the best weapon in the game (as far as I know, I believe there are certain versions with better weapons), but in order to open the chest you need to NOT open 4 other specific chests scattered around the world. At no point was this mentioned, and there is nothing different about the chests you can't open. 2 of them are within a pile of 16 chests you find on a beach for crying out loud. These days you can go online and quickly look up which chests not to open but back when I first played the game your choices were (a) buy a guide or (b) open no chests throughout the game.

Worth it? Not even close.

Also, collecting shit in the Assassins Creed games traditionally rewards you with a slightly higher completion number. I swear I thought I'd at least get a cut scene or something for collecting all those stupid goddamn feathers in AC 2.

I feel your pain. I must have spent hours trying to get one of those fuckers and never did.

OT: I can't think of any examples except for collecting all the relics in Far Cry 3. I did it anyway, but it really wasn't worth it.

I feel like I could stay in this thread all day. Maybe set up a little tent and just tell stories to passersby...

A "Not Worth It" that totally was worth it was collecting all the tutorial tokens in Spider-Man 2. Bruce Campbell had a soundbite for each one and one of them said "If you collect all of these, they'll all say something different." I collected every single one while I had pneumonia, and guess what? When you re-visted them...
They all literally said, "Something different" and usually with different tones and inflections. Worth it?
Another experience I loved but most people would say wasn't worth it was getting the Platinum trophy in FFXIII. Getting a bunch of new themes was cool, even though I could have just downloaded them offline (they were just wallpapers). Still, earning them was fun, especially since I really enjoyed the combat system at a certain point. Playing to take advantage of every second was very different than just pushing through the story.

I guess a big "Not Worth It" for me is any time I've spent in an MMO. They never keep me entertained for more than half the level cap and I feel like I've wasted all my time.

I didn't care for Assassin's Creed when it came out, but I really liked the second one and it ended up being the first game I Platted for PS3.

The HUB missions in X3. Holy moley that is some ridiculous grind you have to do. Although it does give you a pretty sweet reward at the end being able to control jump gates basically.

Still a mental amount of work involved.

I used a Japanese Ditto for my shiny hunting. About 2 weeks into that I had bred 3 or 4 shinies but was hit by the realization that I wasn't having fun and moved on to a different game.

This too...fish only in one-of-multiple spots that are randomized...good luck! Never even used Melotic all that much either.

When the true enemy in Kid Icarus: Uprising is revealed, I just gave up on the game. Yeah, you have to beat a pretty big, big-bad to make the true evil reveal itself but by that point I was just done with the game...also my fingers really hurt.

Bought a game on chance, Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, because it seemed like the type of game I could have fun with. All info I could find was from a Youtube video showing a little bit of the gameplay(review in Portuguese iirc).
Turned out the game was a huge piece of shit. The dialogue was cringe worthy, the combat was horrible and the story was so fucking meh. Fortunetly I've forgotten almost everything about the game by now.

Decided to 100% the game anyway because it seemed like an easy plat... Apart from some annoying grind it was, but sooooooo not worth it.
