So, as of yesterday, I will need to drop $2,000 dollars into my pickup truck. Why? The transmission blew out (I am stuck driving my brothers SUV until mine is fixed). It happened like this:

I was out on the interstate coming back from another town after dropping my girlfriend off at home (the interstate was the fastest way back to my country road). I start going up this long hill and start accelerating to get around an 18-Wheeler. But just as I am in the middle of passing, my truck starts making a loud grinding sound and I lose all power to the engine. When I tried hitting the accelerater, it just made more noise and continued to slow down. So, I pulled on the shoulder, turned on my 4-ways, and started coasting down the other side of the hill at 35 mph (with people flying by doing 80 mph.....not fun). Luckily, my exit was up ahead anyway so I pull off and limp my truck back on the country road and on to the shoulder there. I put it in park, shut off the engine, and call my dad. He gets there in about 5 minutes, and starts looking. First, he checks the engine and finds no problems with it (which I had figured since all my gauges were still fine). However, when he tries putting it into gear, it starts making the noise again. "Yep, your transmissions shot." So I drive his truck back and he drives mine (after somehow getting it to move at road speed again). So, it can go forward, but that is ripping the transmission apart, and there is no longer any reverse on it. So all the snow we got recently has done the transmission in.

For converstation, what are some other moments you have had where you thought "Well, this sucks...." or where that phrase is an understatement. It doesnt have to be a car breaking down, it can be anything, from something as mundane as messing up in a game, to something as serious as getting sick.

I broke my laptop last week. That's annoying :S

It's bumped getting a new PC up the schedule to this week though, that's cool. I lost all my fucking data though, i'm going to have to remember my bloody iTunes playlist outside of my CDs... Ah well it needed trimming down anyway, I don't even listen to half of it.

I need to download Steam and Skype and LoL and everything again too. Though hopefully a new PC will make Bittorrent useful instead of a shiny menu with the words "2 days download" next to everything and anything. That went out the window fast...

Well, I appear to be cripplingly depressed again, and I have a bunch of projects due that I simply don't have the energy nor fucks to give for.

Oh, and did I mention all of them are being run under the assumption that "artsy" media=good media? One of these days, I'm going to tie these fuckers down and make them watch genre movies until they see the error of their ways.

I can't count the amount of times I've snapped a string on my bass right before something important and music related

Once I was doing an acoustic gig with my friend, and backstage, while I was warming up, the E string snapped...And I remember just having the realization that it's broken, I just thought "...Oh fuck my ass.."

but then a guy lent me his bass for the show so I got to go on stage with a nice Fender P bass :D

Only thing that really sucked for me recently was my USP in my desktop computer got fried. I was on my computer when the power went out, and after sitting in the dark for about an hour, I decided to go to sleep. Unfortunately, the power went out because the electric company was doing some testing...Which they did several times. While I was asleep, the power resumed, then shut off and happened a few more times (I found this out, since my mom told me). The multiple attempts along with an old USP resulted in my power supply bursting.

So now I'm waiting for a new USP to come in to fix it.

And sorry to hear about your truck. =/ My mom ended up damaging the transmission of a rental car in the past, but thankfully because of one of their clauses, and because the damage was partly from lack of repair/checking, we ended up not having to pay bonus fees for it.

Why don't you just carry back up strings then?

Well there have been multiple times where I have accidentally left my license at home and realized I don't have it.

"Well, this sucks..." as I climbed out of the wreckage of the family's Explorer that I drove across a patch of black ice, in the fog, down into a shallow, tree filled gully...

You were talking about car stuff, so that was the first thing that sprang to mind.

Just a few days ago, my step father, who is elderly and has COPD collapsed and was rushed to the ER. I headed to the hospital and a couple hours later my mother came along too. They put him on a bipap mask, told us his carbon dioxide was incredibly high, and essentially told us that he probably wouldn't make it more than a few more days if even that if he wasn't put on a ventilaor...My mother decided not to make him suffer further by doing so and she and I started our grieving process and were setting up a DNR and were getting ready to let him go....several hours later he was just fine....

Now while this may be a relief to most, the man is an incredible asshole and has verbally, emotionally, and psychologically abused me and my mother all my life. My mother was having to make the decision to not put him on a ventilator which was making her feel incredibly guilty. I have put my entire life on hold so that I can continue to take care of my step father, since my mother is in a town an hour way, taking care of her mother who is also elderly and there is no one else in the family willing to do so.

I was VERY much ready for this to be over with. Don't get me wrong, while I do not like the man, I do not wish him pain or death...but I do wish him out of my life. So to hear that it would soon be over and that my mother and I could finally move on with our lives...then to have that ripped away from us and then have to live with the knowledge that we will have to go through all this AGAIN when he finally does kick the bucket...yeah that's a situation where "that sucks..." is very much an understatement and that's what was running through my head the rest of the day.

It was nothing major, but my TV crapped out on me a couple of days ago. It's nothing compared to what a lot of people have gone through, but that was the first thing that came to mind. It was a minor problem and now I have a nice, shiny new TV that is better than the one that broke. Every cloud has a silver lining and all that...

When I got diagnosed with cancer for the second time, "well this sucks" was actually pretty much my thoughts at the time, because you're so overwhelmed you can't really have a proper reaction, or at least the reaction that most people think you'd have to such a thing.

Windows corrupted when I needed to finish 5 AP world assignments. I was not a happy guy that night.

I also lost my D string during a concert. This is before when I carried backup strings, so I now either tune properly or carry backups to all hell.

I imagined you crawling from the wreckage in the fashion of your avatar.

Anyways, my computer got a virus in December that fucked it sideways, spent three days trying to fix it to no avail. Luckily, my brother had given me his laptop a while back, and it's actually a lot more powerful, so technically it was an upgrade, but it sucks nonetheless.

I guess losing my job 4 years ago and the constant couch surfing I've done more or less since then. Not getting any responses from my job applications doesn't help either. the few "no" I get actually cheer me up.

And now to hit "post" before I come off as a complete whiner

Unique Selling Point? Unit Power Supply? Uninterrupted Supply Power?
Do you mean UPS?

Now I always do, that was still in my stages of learning ^_^
You'll be a regular old Flea in no time!

I'm actually intending to grab an Acoustic and try to teach myself guitar on my gap year. I wonder how long it'll take to develop some skill at it...

OT: Well, the wrath of the Gods decided to bring heavy snow and ice on my birthday (big 18, too) and prevented a lot of people showing up to my pub crawl.

But if you can't play with a D string, how will you play with G strings? D:

I spent 24 hours outside in Osaka last week because my hostel was fully booked when I tried to extend my stay.

Osaka is both part of the situation that sucks and a thing that sucks all by itself. There is not a whole lot to do there and especially not in the middle of a cold-arse night.

Black ice on an overpass. If I veered to the right any sooner I would have gone over. After that though I had to total my car (If the airbag didn't deploy, I wouldn't have had to, but probably would've had to pay hospital bills instead.) To get my car fixed cost $2600

A few years prior I was buying alcohol for a party with a friend of mine. Once we leave the store, he can't open his door. It's unlocked and the handle inside is moving like normal, but the door won't budge. Turns out he somehow got the seat belt tied in a knot around the locking mechanism ON THE INSIDE OF MY DOOR. $300 to fix that. And I still won't let him ride in my car.
