im looking for lots of anime to add to my list and dont want to go though a web site that just LIST anime and manga (like absolute anime)

You could find lots in Japan... On a serious note just use wikipedia. Go on a wikipedia loop of links and see if any capture your interest.

I've only just started getting into this stuff (which at 23, probably a bit later then most).

Look on Adult Swims' past anime's - they're pretty good about picking decent stuff.

As for the rest of it - you're looking for a needle in a haystack. Just find a few lists on here and pick a few that interest you. There are tons of anime recommendation threads on the Escapist, so if you can't find something that interests you here then you probably aren't a very big fan of it in the first place.

OT: the two sites I had in mind have already been mentioned (ANN, best comprehensive encyclopaedia, effectively), not good on plot summaries, though, better for casts (& anidb).

One thing about ANN that I like is that the reviews that do for series tend to be spot on (wrt my opinion).

That sounds like... obsession. Ever thought of finding something else to do or watch?

Rewatch your favorite if you're having that hard of a time finding a new anime. If you really have seen enough to have a hard time finding some, then it really is time to find something different to watch. No matter how much you love anything, there is a point where it's time to stop and do something else.

i use http://www.thespectrum.net/ to catch up with Gantz now and then.
Maybe you will find something you like there.
It lists stuff, but if you find a manga you like already on there, it will recommend other Mangas you might like also.

My tactic? Google "good anime". Find lists, find links to watch the shows on the lists, make your bookmark list insanely full with anime you will probably never get around to watching, work your way through them. Oh, and watch CLANNAD.
