Earlier today, I went to a pawn shop to browse through their PS2 games. All of their PS2 and older games are put into two large boxes. They are sitting on the floor, shoved underneath some racks in the back of the store. The games are in the cases already. The boxes are over-flowing, with many of the games found on the floor because they are too many jammed into the box as it is.
I was going through one of the boxes, when I found a copy of Ratchet and Clank. I opened it to check how good the disk looks, and the game is gone. Of course I knew that the game was stolen, but just in case, I returned the case to an employee and asked if they might have had the game anyway.
Of course they didn't. All of their older gen games are in the cases, on the floor, in the back of the store, hidden from view, and extremely easy to steal.
So my question is: does the shop deserve their games being stolen from them? For being so careless, does it serve them right to have somebody walk in and take them? And for other things too. Does a person deserve being mugged if they knowingly walk through an unsafe neighborhood?
I'm curious about others opinions. Personally, I don't think people just deserve thievery and such if they are being careless. People should have the common sense to keep their fingers to themselves. But, the victims should really be more careful if it's just a PLAIN thing. Like the pawn shop I mentioned above. Do they deserve it? No. But should they be more careful? Yes. It wouldn't be that difficult to take the games out of the physical cases and store them somewhere safe behind the counter.
So what do you think?
