No it is not. Fred Phelps and a few other members of his family are lawyers and they cut their teeth fighting for civil rights in the 70s (I know, weird right?) They sue the bejeebus out of anyone who assaults them and they make a killing. If you hit one of them, they get what they want. Not to mention there is usually a police barrier between them and you, along with several cops. You'll get the worst of it if you assualt them.TheRenaissanceMan said:
Counter Protests are good. I went to a couple holding signs accusing Fred Phelps of giving me Herpes (I'm a guy). They didn't like that too much. We ended up following them from a soldier's funeral protest to their protest of a Jewish School. Found them wandering the streets in St. Louis trying to get directions and find a place to eat and we heckled the shit out of 'em for an hour until they got in their van and drove off. I know they still remember me, I love it when they come to Missouri.

My advice, either ignore them (because attention is what they want), be clever with an anti-protest, or just be there to stop anyone from doing something they'll regret (okay, maybe not regret... Me? I'd probably end up in jail for "threatenning" them, cause a pump action shotgun or a M4A1 over your shoulder isn't the kindest invitation.
If they came down here, they'd probably not make it back. (live in the middle of nowhere, and the people here do not like meddling outsiders. They also tend to know many interesting places to hide things they don't wish to be found, including ingestion by pigs)

They actually tried that a few months back in the town I go to College in. A soldier died over seas and they said they were going to protest. The community rallied a counter-protest to create a human shield for the family so they wouldn't have to see the SOBs (sheets, bodies, plywood, etc to block the view and singing/prayer to help drown out the noise). The jerks never showed up.

The absolute worst thing you can do to someone seeking attention is to just simply ignore them. Arguing and rallying against them just gives them the attention the crave so much.
Get a bunch of gay couples and have them make out infron of them.
