We've all played as the Marines and the Army, but what about the Navy?

How many of us can say we've played quality games that let us do the actual sea battles the Navy was made for? Not just the SEALs that we've seen from the SOCOM franchise.

Just imagine some of the new experiences of no longer being constricted to the lay of the land, but instead to the whimsy of the ocean and the fancy of the weather...

I want a Navy game!

Battlestations:Midway and Battlestations:pacific.

There you go.
Only played the first one and it was good. Pacific is supposed to be good too.

I was considering mentioning those, but I was thinking more on the terms of a full action game, and from my understanding, those games are a genre-mashup of action/strategy...

The Navy is a bit harder of a sell, ship combat if not in space isnt exactly marketable. Because honestly what would any game about the navy (that doesnt include the seals) wouldnt just be an over glorified version of battle ship? Also navy war fare peeked in WWII, now the aircraft carrier is king.
Why make it a ship battle game, how about we grab the Navy YMCA style? it would make in interesting singing and dancing game don't you think?

WWII naval warfare would be cool, too...

Ah.

Well you can ignore the strategy game parts of it (as they're optional) and play it as an action game.
But I would think that naval combat is supposed to be more of a strategic type of thing than an action sort of thing.

What about Sid Meier's Pirates?

If I wanted to play a game where I spent my time getting a cock stuck up my ass, I'd play World of Warcraft.

Edit: Back on topic; I guess it would be an interesting surrounding, problem is that not all that much happens on a modern aricraft carrier that would work in a video game.

Drop everything and start playing Silent Hunters: Wolves of the Pacific. It's some great, skill scalable submarine combat. Great special effects, plus you get to kill people OTHER than dirty kraut's. I honestly do think the Pacific front is underplayed.

If you hate yourself, look online and find Battle of Jutland. It's an indie naval game based entirely around a single WWI dreadnought battle. If you can figure out how to play it, I will send you a medal.

Naval Ops Warship gunner and it's sequel on the PS2. Great games. Love the ship design aspect and the combat worked well.

Yes, but it´s been around since 1987. The PSP game is good, but nothing compares to playing the games at the arcades (specially G-LOC with the massive R-360 cabinet, though I don´t think anyone can find one of those things anymore).

some of the Games from the medal of honor series have allowed you to play as a a member of the navy. One of the games actually placed you in the pearl harbor attack.
