Back when I used to play, my main army was Tyranids. The only other player who beat me when I went with my proper army was another 'Nid player who had a radically different setup that my army couldn't deal with properly, even at Warhammer World.

I had Space Marine, Chaos and Necron armies as well. Used them all about the same.

I laughed whenever someone fielded Orks, Chaos or IG against me.

Tau and Necrons were a pain the ass. Tau's range and the goddamned Crisis/Broadside combo wasn't good for my Winged Tyrant and non-Old One Eye Carnifex.

Necrons were just a pain in general. Easily beatable, but such irritating games.

I've been playing for a long time, since the days of Rogue Trader and Gorka Morka. I mostly play Dark Angels, primarily Deathwing. Over the years I've played every race. As of right now I have about 30,000 points in Dark Angels, 12,000 points in Dark Eldar, another 10,000 points in Imperial Guard. and 4,000 points in Tau. I used to have a decent size Thousand Sons army as well as a Tyranid army, but I sold/traded most of them. I also play Warhammer Fantasy and all of the Specialist Games as well, Mordheim and Necromunda ftw!

If you want a quick version of the Backstory, force going of to reclaim Malan'tai.

(Malan'tai can be found on Lexicanum)

Also I would like to get Dark Elves for Fantasy soon.

I was informed that it was unbalanced in the favour of Chaos and Imperial fleets, I don't suppose they were wrong?

I play Tyranids, because genestealers are awesome, and Spacemarines (Ultramarines). I just sort of feel in love with them from playing a Ultramarine in Deathwatch.

I can't stand the Tau. I just can't stand their ascetics.

Imperial Guard, reportin' for duty, sir! Custom army, 597th Valhallan, any Ciaphas Cain fan will understand.

Just completed a sexy looking Baneblade, too. God that thing took forever.

And least favorite army is tyranid, just because they are a major pain in the ass to paint.

I play Chaos, Night Lords. AVE DOMINUS NOX!
Ave my friend.

Apart from Night Lords, I play Tyranids, Slaanesh Daemons and every flavour of Eldar (Craftword Eldar, Dark Eldar i.e. The True Kin and a converted force of Exodites.)

Eldar and Necrons are the forces that have the largest advantages in BFG. Chaos and Imperials, are by comparison, pretty blunt and straight forward.

O-ho-ho, do I play the table top? Tis a silly question sir.

After having an uncle with a massive force of Dark Angels, roughly 10,000points (ish) I also aquired the taste for 40k. So, after he quit...I inherited a rather awesome army. Though I don't use them often. They are all 1st edition models too. Crusade armour is just so awesome. Plus, it gets a huge crowd at the local GW.

My personal Chapter are the Luna Wolves ( Pre-herasy ). I love them. I have 3,000 points worth of Luna wolves and am experimenting with Space wolves too. ( My uncle nearly passed out when I told him I'd converted a few Dark Angels to Space wolves! )

My least favourite? I'd say Necrons. As everyone else has said, they just seem so bland compared to the other races. ( This coming from a SM player... )

While I don't own the Tabletop game I do own the Firestorm over Kronus mod for Dawn of War, which emulates the Tabletop game pretty well.

My favorite 2 races are the Tau for all their long Range guns and the XV8(8) Battlesuits and the IG for the Tanks.

I really wish GW would get someone to do a BFG videogame.

I had a Chaos Undivided army which I started collecting and converting for 40K before the Codex: Chaos came out for 2nd Ed. and brought back the rules about which Chaos powers could be friends with which others. And that knocked my mainly Nurgle and Slaanesh force on the head. The group of four schoolfriends I played GW stuff with regularly all getting more interested in Necromunda than in 40K at about that time, so we diverted our energies into that, instead.

I also have a smallish Imperial Guard army kicking around in a box in the attic, which I used for a Galaxy of Damnation campaign at Uni - scoring one memorably embarassing victory over the Eldar in which some truly horrific rolls saw my opponent's Striking Scorpions slaughtered by my Ratling Snipers.

Jostling shoulders with said IG is a much bigger Vampire Counts army; which made its battlefield appearances during a summer-time campaign we did at Uni when the Albion event was going on. I've always loved the Skellie warriors; I have a big soft spot for Jason and The Argonauts (or at least, that 10 minute sequence that took Ray Harryhausen half a year to animate) and the plastic skellies were oh-so-posable and convertable. Shame Wights at the time I started out (4th Ed) were so expensive (both in £ and points). I was a happy chappy when the new models and rules for Grave Guard and Black Knights came out, giving Undead effective infantry and Cavalry for the first time in a couple of rules editions.

Black Templars when I did, still have my army around somewhere. I found their over zealous nature pretty amusing, plus I was into swordfighting and that when I started so a melee type army suited me fine, Space Marines because I was a kid and goddamnit they're giants in armour with big swords.

Sometimes play Tyranid too, my army was basically Zerg rush style and surprisingly effective but Templars were always my go to guys, so damned powerful when you play 'em right and the champion can tear shit up so easily, considering.

Necrons are my worst enemy, they're possibly the most dangerous and I have this thing about bringing down the big guys so if they bring a special in (looking atchoo Nightbringer) I kinda assault it and I always win but yeah...painful.
Makes me want to play again but everytime I walk past or have a look in it's full of smelly neck beards :( why no shower GW peoples?!

I have the beginnings of an Imperial Guard army that I'd love to have the time and money to finish.

I'm still new to the game, so I started nice and simple with an Ultramarine army. I do love vanilla Space Marines, though. They've got a lot of variety and plenty of fun toys to play with. Plus I really dig the Ultramarine paint scheme.

As for least favorite, maybe Tyranids, as they're the ones I've played against the most (and sub-sequentially lost to the most).

My main army is Orks, at the moment I have about 2000 points worth (Which is a lot of Orks considering how cheap they are points-wise) but I rarely field all of them at once since I tend to play 1500 point games and I just like to be able to customize my army to suit my needs at the moment.
(Plus it's always fun to kick the bejeezus out of an opponent who thinks the Orks are the "comic relief" army and aren't designed to actually win a fight)

I have a pretty sizable Chaos Daemons army as well (with a few WH:Fantasy Chaos Lords thrown in to use as Heralds) Most of it's focus is on Slaanesh and Khorne but I have a small sidebar or Tzeentch and Nurgle units that I can swap out should the game require it.

Other than that I have a small 1000 point Space Marine army but they almost never see any play time.

As for the armies I hate...I was never really into the Tao, their weird Anime mech-warrior designs just don't seem to fit in with the rest of the game, thematically.
I'm also not a big fan of the Necron, but that's mainly because they're just kinda boring to paint and play, there's very little variety to be had with them.

I have a beginner Space Marine army of the Mentor Legion chapter. I liked the idea of being a test-bed for experimental Imperial Weaponry. However, if I had been paying more attention to what I was doing, I would have gone either Death Korp of Krieg or tried to find some Praetorians. They seem more badass than the Space Marines to me.

I play orks, Red Sunz style, lots of fast moving hard hitting shock troops. Admittedly it's not the best plan ever since any kind of prolonged fight can cost me a game and liberal amounts of heavy weapons can stop my trukks ever arriving to the enemy.

I recently quit buying any more models because of the obscene prices on...well EVERYTHING.

It's a real shame as well because I enjoyed painting the models and found a game now and then fun but I just couldn't afford to support the hobby as well as other things in my life.
