http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2011/09/20/submarine-rampage-sailor-who-shot-dead-officer-gets-life-115875-2343282

This morning I ran out of toilet paper, I decided to reach for this "News"paper and discovered it was already full of shit. When will it end? This rag unfortunately is read majorly by a large percent of the British population who no doubt have some sort of control over the direction of Britain(even if it's just buying greggs pasties) Also I did not recall a submarine in any GTA games and they even avoided giving us nice planes because of 9/11.

Ayone got any plans? I'll check my videogames collection for ideas...

Simple Rule: Tabloids Sell More by Peddling Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt.

Don't buy, link or read them. It makes them stronger.

What's that? A mass maniac has played an immensely popular game! Call the press, this is revolutionary!

That sounds like the entire strategy of the Fox News planning department...

"Shortly before the shootings, wannabe gangsta rapper Donovan, who called himself Reggie Moondogg, had told friends that he was planning a massacre like in video game Grand Theft Auto."

If he flat out said that he was copying GTA, well, you can't really blame them for putting a games spin on it.

On the other hand...um...aren't people serving on attack submarines sorta supposed to be into causing violence?

You would have a point on this except for one minor detail......

The lad already said he was going to do it to copy GTA.

That came from HIM, not the papers making shit up.

The Mirror has a pretty good "rep" for doing decent reviews on video games and has, on numerous occasions, mocked the Mail for blaming games for mad shit. But when a kid tells people "i'm going to kill people like Grand Theft Auto" what do you expect the paper to print?

Lets be honest. The british tabloids (specifically the Daily Mail) would link every murder to video games if they could. Although the Mirror is usually pretty lenient.
I'd like to take offense with a few things in the article.

A sailor who shot dead an officer on a nuclear sub to copy gory video game Grand Theft Auto
GTA isn't actually that gory, compared to other games. The goriest it gets on a regular basis is pools of blood under the dead.

players rack up points for kills
No... Just no.

wannabe gangsta rapper Donovan, who called himself Reggie Moondogg
Y'don't think this had more to do with it? Anyone who calls themselves Moondogg clearly has a problem!

Donovan had wild eyes and the look on his face was of somebody who was in another place ? like they were in a dream and they were doing this like in a video game
I don't know about the rest of you but my eyes are pretty focused when I'm playing.

I think a more satisfactory answer is that he was angry and mentally unstable!

I bet all serial killers have played a whole lot of GTA. I mean, there's no other way it could have been done--games must have caused it because you rack up points by killing people, and you go on bloodthirsty quests.

That article needs a different writer. Maniac writer who wrote it didn't do so great. Crazed writer needed more research.

I have one question...

Shortly before the shootings, wannabe gangsta rapper Donovan, who called himself Reggie Moondogg, had told friends that he was planning a massacre like in video game Grand Theft Auto.
WTF KIND OF NICKNAME IS REGGIE MOONDOGG? Why did nobody, y'know, tell his CO that he was planning a massacre?
