I want a 8 remake too, i need to buy 6 for GBA
If by "8 remake" you mean rewrite the story, dialogue and most of the characters, revamp the combat/magic system and NOT make the card game the most entertaining aspect of the game, then I'm totally for it.

However, VII and VIII are not nearly old enough to warrant a remake. I would share the opinion that VI was magical enough to not really need it.

A remake is for a game that needs one. FFVI is perfect as is and does not need a remake.

FFT needed a remake because it was poorly translated and had a few balance issues.

FFIV was pretty much perfect (though horrible ported to the GBA) but its remake was horrible.

I don't see why the FF fans want a FFVII remake because if their game is so perfect a new coating of paint on it would just be a waste of everyone's time because they could always just go back to the original one and it would be the same damn game. a remake should have something extra to it or there is no point in making it but adding something extra to FFVII will piss them off.
I have the best reason for a FFVII remake. As if the remake was made people would stop asking for it and wasting their money on spin offs hoping for one thus allowing FFVII to rest in piece and Square can stop ruining my favourite FF.

FFVI should be remade only if they decide to put in a villain that is more threatening than Kefka.

That game made me feel like I was spending my time building up a nuclear arsenal in order to take down Corky from Life Goes On. I was completely shocked that he actually did turn out to be the ultimate enemy in that game. How pathetic.
exactly. i thought it was a joke, the game itself isn't bad at all, thats the reason why I, and so many other people, tend to like vii more, is because of sephiroth himself, saves that game

for a remake, i'd obviously love the 3d graphics, and possible a few new areas, and a few updated missions or even adding a new character to the party would make all the difference in the world, use new modern ideas and pump em into those old games and im sure there would be some godliness that came out

I say if they remake FFVII, they do it in FFVI style 2D top down pixel-based art with no voiceovers, no FMV's, complete non-sampled MIDI soundtrack and no added material whatsoever.

I would buy and play that.

Good question, what about FF6? I've not actually heard anything at all about the earlier FF games aside from small things which certainly isn't enough to warrant a remake.

You know, if the remake sucks you could always just NOT PLAY IT and play the original. I've liked some remakes but disliked other Squeenix has done. I pick and choose. I'm still glad they attempted to remake them though, it makes the games more readily available to a generation that may not have been around when the originals came out, especially when games like Chrono Trigger are still extremely rare to find today and sells for around $45 average.

Oh but then what would all the fanboys have to complain endlessly about?!

My bad.
How dare a company try to remake a game that was popular so it can be played on better hardware and to fix gameplay and graphical issues and add cutscenes to reveal more about the storyline. HOW DARE THEY. If it's not perfect they shouldn't even bother.

Complain complain complain.

I...what? The guy poisons a town personally, he murders commanding officers and murders anyone in his way to his ultimate goal. He's the only FF villain to ever actually achieve his goal
to become a god and destroy the world
Sephiroth was just a generic I R EVUL villain with absolutely no personality beyond that.
sephiroth did the exact same things? except for he probably slaughtered countless more, considering he was SOLDIER commander for god knows how long, and they go way more into depth on sephiroth and if you pay attention he actually does have a personality, he just became so wrapped up in his ultimate fate goal to take all of the planets energy for his own he became a heartless beast

hell when he kills aerith
just about 90% of the people who played that game made them shit bricks in ferocity on how they wanted vengeance , i couldn't wait to get a crack at that badass, while kefka..that fucking clown? i dont care how much power he had, hes a fucking clown, thats just retarded for a super villian, i could deal with it tho for the games sake, as i like jrpg's and square

Thank you! VI was my favourite. The PS1 remake (oh the probably-not-irony) brought me into the console rpg world.

Ah Kefka. You so crazy. And creepy. Please don't look at me. Ever. Meep.

God no, in every possible phsysical and mental way I am sending you no waves.

I can list, bullet and/or categorize the numerous reasons that Kefka was a intrinsically, unequivocally, fundamentally better villian in nearly every possible aspect.

[UNNECESSARY SPOILER ALERT]

Kefka offing Ghestal >way more dramatic> Sephiroth ax'in Aerith.

That being off my chest. Obnoxiously padding story, gameplay, character count and play time is what RUINS most remakes. No personal offense meant mate, but I hope that if the project gets done, that they do the exact opposite of nearly everything you mentioned.

Maybe I'm old, who knows?

A remake sounds like a possibility for VI but in the end i don't think it needs it. I'll play number VI on my SNES.

That's beacuse 90% of the people who played FFVII were 10-16 when they played it, and it was their first experience with Final Fantasy.

Palom/Porom in FFIV
General Leo in FFVI
Tellah in FFIV
Golbez in FFIV
Cid in FFVI (if you screwed up)

All of those were way more dramatic meaningful heartfelt moments, and they didn't need FMV's to convey it.

I literally cannot convey in words how shallow in scope and character development the subsequent Final Fantasy's beyond VI (with maybe the exception of IX) have been. That's the reason fans are clamoring for an FFVI remake; there just hasn't been such a complete story and brilliant characters since in that series.

well idk if it was the music or what random flaw, but i just think its opposite, but to each his or her own

no offense taken, proper criticism is fine by me, i wouldn't want them at all to change the main story, the things i like to see is if they did add an extra character, have it be like a yuffie where you can get them on the side in a sequence and they open up a few hours of sidequest, but do not deter from the main storyline from the original in any way, and if the remake came the one difference i would want for combat is to make sure things are balanced and their are a few possible combinations of styles that can be certain bosses (hate when there is only one way to beat a boss and your style is no where near that, then your doomed to your fate), and obviously 3d graphic updates, otherwise the main game was good enough for me

I'd also say that there's a strong number of people who want an FFVI remake not for themselves, but as a gift to the FFVII A.D.D. fanboy generation to expose them to something wonderful when they no longer have the patience for SNES graphics. There's a certain benevolence factor to the idea of a remake of FFVI in that we WANT you kids to experience something better...

But it WOULD add something extra to it: basically, the only reason people want a remake is to correct those horrendous, horrendous 90's 3D graphics.

III and IV have already gotten DS remakes. It stands to reason that V will come next, followed by VI. It's not a difficult conclusion to arrive at.
