The good thing about anime is they love to incorporate various musics from different sources, I still remember how surprised I am when I watch Hellsing TV series have ending credit sung by Mr. Big.

There could be lots of reason why, he/she could be too young to know them, or just like video games, there's lots of choices out there and some people may skip some stuff. Don't forget MTV is suck now, rather then introducing new songs they're too busy making reality TV shows.
