My friend keeps nagging me for not playing Mafia. But I'm just not interested! It's sandbox and it's about 60s America, both things that I hate.
Both the Mafia games are neither... The city is an illusion of a sandbox, it's more of a stage set for the missions (some of which are very good). And the first is set mainly in the 30s, the second is 40s-50s. So it is conceivable that you might like them more than you think...
Yeah, when the second one came out everyone was complaining that it wasnt a very good sandbox game completely missing the point of the open world. The player drives around through the city a lot meaning that if it wasnt an open world map then it would be a shit load of linear stretches of road for each level, its a lot easier to just make one big level then making multiple ones that cross eachother various times. Its a linear game with linear levels, only a few of them actually let you have some time for yourself to do whatever you want. The player is never out of the mission in a free-roam mode during the story mode (there was even a seperate mode called free-roam just for the purpose of letting the player do whatever he wanted)

Shadow of the Colossus. I've always really wanted to, but I guess a part of me was waiting for it to come to PC. I now recognize that it never will.

I assume that my PS2 still works, so it's just about finding an (affordable) copy of the game.

I stopped playing text/point and click adventure games after the Commodore 64 so once I'd gotten Zork out of my system, that was it.

Monkey Island unless you count five minutes in the Radio Shack where it was being used to sell Tandy computers. Also, I never played Myst either because a salesman at the same store told me it was a screensaver. When I saw people actually playing this neat screensaver, I was pissed.

I never played Pac-Man on the Atari (in the Arcade, of course). I did however own a copy of E.T, Indiana Jones, and Custer's Revenge (for exactly one play-through).

Master Blaster for NES. Little brother syndrome. I only got to watch. Same goes for the original Metroid.

Mega Man 1. Box looked stupid. (I jumped in at MM2)

Despite playing every single Metal Gear (including the side-scroller that no one talks about), I never played any after Metal Gear Solid. What's a patriot? Who's the albino ninja?

Silent Hill 2. The best of the series I'm told.

After that, I was a grownup and had a valid excuse for playing five minutes and never picking it up again.

Half-Life 2. It may not be a decade old, buuuut very close to it now.

And God knows I have I tried to play the game! But I get oddly enough motion sickness while I am normally fine with all other first-person games. I'm even cool with racing sims. I don't know what's wrong with me and Half-Life 2.

I really wish I didn't have to stop playing after 5-10 minutes every time I try to progress in the game. And I wish I didn't feel like throwing up when I played a bit more than that.
It's probably motion sickness and you need to increase the fov (field of vision). There is a console command for it: sv_cheats 1; fov 95 (or something like that, I haven't played in a while) though you won't be able to get achievements with cheats active.

-----

I haven't played Lemmings, Ultima, Day of the Tentacle, X-Wing, or Dungeon Keeper either along with the games I in a earlier post.

For a start, you can count every game that's not available on the PC, since I've never owned a console.

From the games that are available on the PC, I haven't played any games in the Ultima, Elder Scrolls, Wing Commander, Baldur's Gate, and Thief series, as well as Planescape: Torment, and the original Doom.

That would be "Day of the Tentacle". I keep hearing from my friends, and the internet in general, that it is a great game. One of the great examples of point and click adventures. I need to try it sometime

Here're a list of franchises I've never even played, let alone beaten.

Legend of Zelda
Starcraft
Metroid
Halo
Dead Space
BioShock
WoW
Thief
Metal Gear Solid
Chrono Trigger/Cross
Suikoden
Final Fantasy (only played the first game)
Sonic (only a couple of times at a friend's house, when I was like 5)

On the other hand I've played a lot of cult classics... the original Silent Hill and Resident Evil, Beyond Good & Evil, the Sands of Time trilogy, every GTA game (yes, including the top-down ones) up to San Andreas...

Master of Orion 1 and 2. I have not yet played that game at all. Although it does look interesting.

Thanks, I'll try it out!

(Hope it'll work...)

There's probably a huge list, but off the top of my head I've never played:

- Any Elder Scrolls RPG
- Any Mario Kart game
- Any Zelda game
- Pretty much any NES / SNES game actually so Metroid, Megaman, Donkey Kong, etc
- Half Life 2, or Portal (not 10 years old, but still - played 30 minutes of Portal 2 though)
- Only ever played one Space Quest game (but did play most of the other Sierra 'quest' games)
- Any Metal Gear Solid game
- Any Silent Hill game
- Any Resident Evil other than the first one
- Ultima I, II, III or V (or IX, but it's not considered good)
- Any Wing Commander game
- Diablo I (played plenty of II though)
- Baldur's Gate
- Planetscape Torment (for shame, I know)
- Any Deus Ex game (though Human Revoution is waiting in my 'to play' pile)
- Only got an hour into the first Halo, never finished it or played any other game in the series
- Any Gran Turismo game

There are a lot of old games that I played halfway through and would like to finish, but I guess that doesn't really count.

"Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magic Obscura" is one of those that I missed completely and would like to try.

Ultima VII is another one. I've heard it described as the best of the series. When I finally completed Ultima V, I felt I had had enough of the Ultima world for a lifetime, but maybe I'll check it out at some point.

I'd say that would be an excellent candidate. People don't talk about it much anymore, but it was critically acclaimed and it was in my opinion the Lucasarts adventure with the best gameplay. The storytelling is also good, not the excellence of Grim Fandango or Psychonauts, but still amusing and entertaining.

While I was say Chrono Trigger but I got that game on the DS as a Christmas present years ago (it's alright but I never finish it).
Other than that I guess that would be Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2.

A lot of them... Off of the top of my head:

Silent Hill
Any of the Final Fantasy games before X
Any Zelda game
Metal Gear Solid
Diablo
The first Halo
Baldur's Gate

...and a whole load of others. I'll get through some of them some day.

With the exception of 5 minutes of Majora's Mask in a hotel room one day, I've never played a Legend of Zelda game. Played maybe 30 minutes of Metal Gear Solid 2, I think (err... "say through the intro" is probably more accurate), other than that, haven't played any MGS games.
