So recently, one of the content creators of this site, GoodBadFlicks, did a video on a game called Nom Nom Galaxy you can find here:

He makes mention that the game was pretty good for listening to a podcast or playlist in the background near the end. Which reminded me that I've actually been trying to find engaging games that can do that too, other than a few I do this with already.

So what do you play like to play while listening to something else?

I like to play Europa Universalis IV. The soundtrack gets repetitive fairly quickly, and there are no important audio cues, so there's really nothing stopping you from listening to your own music or a good podcast while playing.

The only thing I play while listening to anything other than the game's soundtrack is Minecraft.

I'll usually play The Binding Of Isaac Rebirth or Football Manager when listening/watching something else.

hearthstone and pokemon are pretty much go to's for this, I have netflix open on the majority of my big ass screen (or tv) and on the other small portion of the screen I'll be playing pokemon or hearthstone usually, easy multitasking.

When I play something that doesn't necessarily require audio cues or inherent music, like Space Engineers, Terraria, Minecraft, Don't Starve, Sakura Clicker, FTL, or the like, I'll generally just open up my Youtube Favorites or Liked playlist and hit autoplay.

I was just now listening to Dodgers game while playing Metal Gear Solid 3 on my Vita. Dodgers already clinched the playoff berth so today's game is considered meaningless.

The only games I listen to other things while playing are strategy games (which I don't play that often), MMOs and multi-player games if no ones using a mic. If it's competitive I only listen to lyric-less music.

Pretty much any game that's not story-focused and I actually need to listen to dialogue. There's something incredibly satisfying about waging bloodthirsty warfare in Civ V whilst listening to Slayer.
Sport the war, war support
The sport is war, total war
When victory's a massacre
The final swing is not a drill
It's how many people I can kill

Most standard MMOs, turn based games, anything slow paced that isn't heavy on the story, really...

I tend to put music on whenever I play a slow game like Hearthstone. I turn it off for a second occasionally to appreciate some of the voice clips though. Surprise Malygos Hunter, *****. ET makes it weirdly almost viable with zero mana Arcane Shots and 1 mana Quick Shots so you can legit drop him on turn 10 and do 17 damage the same turn.

A lot of strategy games are perfect for that. Most dialogue appear in boxes, so you can just mute the game and listen away to what you want.

One of my personal favorites are Warriors games, the sounds to be a mix of obnoxious and repetitive, best to just lower the volume as much as possible and listen to something else.

I don't really listen to podcasts and such, but when I do, I've played Reus and SPAZ.

Considering that I always listen to music one way or another it happens everytime that I'm listening to music while playing a game.

To make the multitask circle complete I even watch stuff in the meantime on my laptop.

League of Legends, obviously.

League's sound design and music are quite boring and there aren't really any auditory cues.

The Co-optional Podcast is usually about 3 hours long, so I listen to that and get about 5 games of League in.
