I just watched Gattaca today, and it wasn't bad. Also a fan of the Matrix, Blade Runner, and of course Star Wars, the original trilogy. And I need to watch Serenity. After Firefly, I've been a bit hesitant about starting the movie, because that means that after Serenity, I will officially have nothing left to watch from the Firefly universe and then I will probably cry or something.

I cried at the end of Serenity. They killed someone I didn't want dead. But I just tell myself it's non-canon, and in my mind they're all still flying out there in Serenity. The movie was pretty bad, actually, compared to the series.

OT: AI, Alien, Ghost In The Shell... I like the ones that make me think a little :)

Blade Runner is a classic. Most of the ones I like have already been said such as Moon, District 9, Serenity, 2001, and The Matrix.

I didn't really care for Sunshine. The final act was confusing and I just couldn't make sense of it all. Also I was bothered by scientific things such as what they hope to achieve by flying plutonium into the sun.

After 'it' happened, I spent the entire rest of the movie complaining, crying and screaming out said character's name.

Star Trek (the old ones with Picard etc)
Star Wars (definately nr 4. possibly 5,6,1)
The Fifth Element
Mars Attacks
A.I.: Artificial Intelligence
Jurassic Park (mainly 1)
Equilibrium
V for Vendetta
Planet 51
Etc. (Just look at the darned list below)

Wow, I was going to make a list of what films to suggest however it seems someone as already done the job for me.

Though I will add Aliens to that list. You have Alien but I liked both and I think they both deserve to be on the list. For the rest of the Alien series... YMMV.

Galaxy Quest, the original Stargate movie, Night Watch (not exactly sci-fi, but close), Escape from New York, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Star Trek: First Contact...

There're more, but I'm too tired and distracted at the moment.

I don't think anyone's mentioned these two

Brazil, a great dystopian black comedy
Metropolis 2001 anime version
these two were great films and i highly recommend them.
