Resident Evil
Haha, how could I forget that one. Resident Evil 4 is pretty good I hear.
Too bad it was first developed for the gamecube but I am not saying that it wasnt a good game on the ps2 I did love the prlfae1324314 light shoot'em up thingy.

I liked splinter cell chaos theory

60GB PS3s are backwards compatible, for all those wondering, though if you read the original post you'd know that.

And yes, they're backwards compatible with both PS2 and PSX - there's a list somewhere of which games are compatible, just google PS3 backward compatibility.

I would definitely agree with Timesplitters 2, God of War, and Killer 7 (though I much preferred the Gamecube version, the PS2 version's still good). I'd also recommend Hogs of War on the PSX, fantastic game but not all that easy to get now (eBay and such places would be easiest). Also, the original Transformers game (not the horrific new one based on the new film) but get the director's cut as the normal version doesn't work so well on the FMVs (or you could just skip them).

15. Fatal Frame 1 - 3 (RARE!!!)
Damn, how did I forget about the Fatal Frame series? Fatal Frame 2 is by far the scariest game I've ever played, but good luck finding a copy.

Killer 7 is awesome, Killzone is pretty cool, and God of War should not be missed. Also, you can pick up Primal Rage for ps 1 for pretty cheap online. I loved that game in the arcade.

and Sly cooper, I only like the first one becuase you really needed skill and stealth, the others had a health bar, that ruined it.
If by "ruined it" you mean "Took a generic platformer with pretty much no distinguishing features and turned it into one of the best action adventures on the system", that would be accurate.

You should play Sly Cooper to understand the story, it's not long and it's reasonably entertaining, within it's limited aspirations, but Sly 2 is where the series takes off. (For the uninitiated, imagine if you took Assassin's Creed, replaced all the repetitive boring missions with unique and interesting ones, and cel shaded it. That's pretty much Sly 2 and 3)

The 'Ys' PS2 game was recommended up there, but I'm going to rip it loose due to the constant button-mashing and the absolutely ear-grating dubbing. Unless you can find it in the cheapo bin and you really want an rpg, it's one you can look over without too much pain.

Like everyone else recommended: 'Shadow of the Colossus', 'ICO', 'Ratchet and Clank' series, and 'Okami' are all good.

Two good rpgs are 'Grandia 2' (and 1 if you can find it), and 'Dark Cloud 2'. You could also try the 'Wild Arms' series, but aside from 3 they are all brutally long and sometimes badly translated.

Some don't, but I enjoyed 'Way of the Samurai' 1 and 2 (more 1 than 2). You can buy it at a very decent price now.

'Guilty Gear XX' is a nice 2d fighter that's relatively well-known. My only problem with it is the thumb-blisteringly impossible button scheme to do finishing moves, which is far more possible in GGX - however GGXX I believe has more play options.

since Okami has already been mentioned SO much... Okami AGAIN LOL.
--that and--
Yakuza. both have great stories, outstanding characters, and their own unique styles.

Freedom fighters is a great game, but i'd say red faction but not 2 as it was pretty poor.

And if you like sports i'd say Madden NFl 07 and fight night round 3 enjoy =]

Forgive me for probably repeating stuff that everyone else has already said.
-Devil May Cry 3 (Get the special edition or you're going to be throwing your controller at walls)

-The Splinter Cell games

-Silent Hill 2 (although I'd recommend the Xbox version if you already have a 360... just don't make more than one save file or the backwards compatibility will crap itself). I can't speak for SH 1 or 3, but I really don't think 4 is worth your time if you have a bunch of other games to be playing.

-If you can forgive stupid plot points, annoying characters, and truly irritating combinations of the two for the sake of fun combat and tight gameplay, get the Kingdom Hearts games.

-If you can forgive somewhat (not cripplingly, but it is noticeable) shallow game design and you're a fan of the Castlevania series, I'd recommend getting Lament of Innocence (although you'll need to visit GameStop to get it) and Curse of Darkness.

-The GTA games.

-I've never played RE4, but everyone and their cat tells me it's excellent, so get that I guess.

-The God of War games.

If you're also looking for PS1 games, regardless of whether you like Castlevania or not, get Castlevania: Symphony of the Night if you can (it's pretty rare, but worth playing if you can find it). Skip all the 3D Final Fantasy games though. The only ones worth your time are 4 and 6.

-The Ratchet and Clank series
-The Jak and Daxter trilogy
-Mercenaries
-Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition
-Soul Caliber II/III
-God of War I/II
-Bloody Roar 4
-the Splinter Cell series

Those are my big ones. Though I've never actually played God of War.

To add another genre (not knowing what you're into...) SSX, SSX Tricky & SSX 3 rule something sick. Unusually for a series it's worth getting all three as the system and the tracks evolve throughout. Tony Hawks Under Ground, and American Wasteland, are supposed to be pretty good as well . I'd agree with the previous that any GTA, Timesplitters or Prince of Persia Game is worth getting, but Sands of Time will always hold a special place for me. You might want to try anything out of the Lego series (Star Wars I & II, Indiana Jones) as they're great fun too. Not to mention quite easy as they're made for 6-year olds.

On top of that it's also worth trying to get your hands on a copy of Metal Gear Solid for the PSX, as it's still unbelieveably sweet.

Hope this is useful...
