Having grown up as a rock music fan in the nineties, I got to experience an age when musical style was in flux and record companies were putting out all kinds of new shit. No one had a clue what the next big thing would be, so bands like Rocket from the Crypt, Jawbox, and Spacehog were being hawked alongside more firmly-established acts like Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Pearl Jam. Anyhow, this was also the era before good internet, MP3s, Bandcamp, and all the other great consumer tools we've got at our disposal these days were around, so those more intrepid music consumers amongst us spent lots of time trying out cool-looking records from used CD stores, bargain bins, flea markets, garage sales, etc... I had a particular love for this practice and ended up buying all sorts of random shit, often for pennies on the dollar of the discs' original prices. Even when used CD stores started disappearing in the early 2000s, by that time, the internet had gotten better and I was occasionally ordering box lots of similar shit from eBayers. While I've certainly run upon some total crap, I also ended up finding dozens of records that remain amongst my favorites of all time.

As I've seen quite a few blogs and Youtubers tackle this kind of thing with video games and movies, I'm wondering if anybody else here enjoys this and, if so, share what you've found.

One such record that I found was a one-off release by a New York trio called Hash. Their sound falls into a place similar to say, Blind Melon, Jane's Addiction, etc..., mixing rock with elements of funk. Here's my favorite track from that one, with a great chorus hook and some pretty awesome instrumental playing on all the band members' parts:

My mom found a really cheap copy of Mia oi Todd's The Golden State and bought it for me. Really nice of her. It's just the kind of alternative music that I like.

I've found two amazing trance albums this way.

The world of dream and trance and Spirtual Vibes. Both were literally being given away for nothing. I found both of the CDs like 10+ years ago, and I still listen to them both till this day. Considering how much I love trance and all.
