What are the best split-screen (co-op) games for 360?

A young cousin is returning from school abroad for the Summer and I usually get to see him often. We always get on well and he's actually pretty good at video games now. We've often played Forza 2/3 and Splinter Cell: Conviction and I wanted other recommendations from fellow forumites.

I would prefer co-op to vs. if possible and have very little interest in sports games. What other split-screen games for the 360 would people recommend for having fun and opportunities to do silly things in? Preferrably also not too violent or gory as he's only 10 (Halo/Splinter Cell/AssCreed violence levels okay).

Further, what is the most split-screen fun you've personally had?

EDIT: Didn't see his age. Army of Two and Gears may not be appropriate. I think Borderlands is fine but PEGI gave it 18 so that's a call you'll have to make.

Army of Two series.
Halo Series
Gears of War series

I'll get back to you.

Borderlands is split screen but in stead of squishing the screen, it just cuts off the left and right quarter of your screen and only gives you the middle half.

It's great co-op but not great spilt screen.

If you don't need split screen Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is good. I hear castle crashers is good too but I've not played it.

Castle Crashers would be perfect. It's funny and only has small bits of cartoon violence (try the trial and see if it's suitable). Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 or 2 are also a good choice, especially if he likes superheroes. Portal 2 would be fun assuming he doesn't get too bogged down with getting his head around portals. Any of the LEGO games.

Splinter Cell conviction has an entire co-op CAMPAIGN and it's a total blast of sneaky spies, baddie capping, and lurking.

Halo levels of violence are acceptable? Then Halo. Duh.

Also any of the lego games (ideally star wars or pirates). Lego Pirates came out recently, and it's awesome!

Any of the guitar hero/rock band games work too, but then you need to get the instruments too, and it gets a tad expensive

Thanks for the above posts, please keep them coming! Yes, Conviction is great. From the very beginning, just arguing about who is Archer and who is Kestrel is silly fun. Not to mention freeing each other from choke holds, defribulating, shouting to each other to hide from a patrol, joint mark/executes, etc. Sadly his profile doesn't have many weapons unlocked, so I usually drop mine (all about the silenced MP5) then restock at ammo crate.

Any more info on Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Ultimate Alliance 2 or Castle Crashers? And split-screen isn't as important as co-op fun. Borderlands is a great suggestion except for the Dr. Ned and exploding heads bits. I've only played it online but imagine it would be as fun on the same console, though there are long stretches with not much happening. More suggestions gratefully received.

Earth Defense Force 2017! Arcade-style 3rd-person shooter with full co-op. Campy fun.

I think Rainbow Six Vegas 2 has co-op through the whole campaign, though I can't remember how violent it is. No more so than Assassin's Creed, probably.

2 words...'Splosion Man. Just to avoid low content, but there is nothing else that needs to be said. 'Splosion Man is a BLAST in co-op.

Kudos to you if you got the pun ;)

I had a great time playing Hunted: The Demon's Forge with my brother. I loved every second of it. But the game is kind of story heavy. And it is also a fantasy game. more like Lord of the Rings and Diablo

X-men Ultimate alliance Games they are fun Co-op and if you can find a copy of Brute Force for original X-box I believe it works with the 360.

"Oh God, where are you? Shoot the spiders, shoot the spiders! AGH! Friendly fire! Friendly fire!" That game is soooo much fun coop.

That game would be infinitely better without the AI partner.

As for my input: Resident Evil 5. Might be stretching the gore part but it's a fun game.

I love how many people suggested Conviction despite TC mentioning it in his post. Proves how often people will just ignore the OP and read the title.

I second Halo and Lego games though. Gears I believe has a gore/ language filter so you could use those. Sadly there are too few 360 split-screen games out there really =/ Can't really suggest more that hasn't been covered.
