Why does everybody say PS3 exclusives suck?
God of War 3 and Collection
Sly Cooper Collection
Uncharted 1/2/3
Better Portal 2 with Steam support and cross platform play with PC/Mac
Killzone 1/2
Little Big Planet 1/2
Modnation Racers
Ratchet and Clank
Gran Turismo 5
Ico and Shadow of the Collosus Collection and The Last Guardian
Twisted Metal
Infamous 1/2

Xbox has
Halo 3/ODST/Reach
Fable 2/3
Gears of War 2/3
Left 4 Dead 1/2
Yeah I think PS3 has way better exclusives, the only thing i'd really miss of x-box exclusives is tales of vesperia. Way more on the PS3 for me to care about.

Don't get the fat 60 gig. That one got Yellow Light of Death most often. Pretty much every single other model is good.

i've never had a bug in it unlike my 360, it has a wireless reciver, something which is an extra for 360 from what i heard (my 360 has none)
The newer model 360's all have internal wireless b/g/n in them now. The older models all needed an add-on to do wireless.

As for buying a PS3 used, I'd hesitate buying any console used unless you really know the seller well especially with Sony's current hate with anyone who even thought of homebrewing or hacking their units. I still remember when microsoft did their last major banning of mod'd consoles, the next day ebay was flooded with used 360's.

There are no risks really, I find that a ps3 saves more money than buying an Xbox would.
For example...
Xbox controllers are 60 dollars with AA batteries, 30 bucks for rechargable, PS3 controllers are 55 WITH rechargeable batter built in.

PS3 is a Blu ray player, if you don't already have one, then you don't necessarily have to get another one.

To play online with the Xbox, you need to pay a subscription. If you have netflix, you need to have a Live sub to use it. Anyone else think this is stupid? I need a sub to use my sub? Incidentally, the PS3 requires no sub, but you can pay for PS+ which gives you special access to content and gives you discounts.

Although this isn't the case now, Xboxs used to require a wireless adapter that cost 100 bucks, while other consoles, including the wii, had it built in. Zuh? Seriously, my DS and PSP have Wifi.

Hard drives are available for both, but the PS3 simply uses any old Laptop Hard disk, meaning you can walk into a computer store and buy 500 gigs for 50 bucks and install it yourself, while the Microsoft sells specific xbox ones for 150 dollars that are 250 gigs.

Please note: the prices I'm using is based on the prices in Canada, just so some people don't assume I'm American and go batshit bonkers over wrong prices.

Have you considered the possibility of being eaten by a grue? With black ops on the system there is a chance.

To be honest, if there are enough games to interest you on the system then there are really no risks to buying one, its not a tough decision.
Oh man I fuckin' lol'd at that.
I saw this one on 4chan years ago.

OT: Don't worry about that alleged lack of games on PS3, it might have been the case a few years ago when it was fledgling, but it's got a healthy library of games these days.

I'd personally recommend a PS3, since my 360 RROD'd about four or five times in a year when I first got it and my PS3 has been chugging on for upwards on three years this year with not so much as a scratch. Granted I didn't take the best care of my 360, but my friend had 3 of them and they all konked out on him, and he take's care of his hardware on a creepy, neurotic level.

You risk not getting to play Valkyria chronicles or 3D Dot Game Heroes, if you DON'T buy a PS3

Like 360's RRoD, PS3 has the YLoD (yellow light of death.) Not nearly as popular as the RRoD, but if you're buying used with no warranty, and especially if it's a fatboy (not the new slim version), then buyer beware!
so i'm going to HAVE to drop extra dough on a new slim one that may very well get the yellow light of death so i can't play my PS2 games on it without having to buy them again? thanks Sony

well i really only want the console for two games: Infamous (and Infamous 2) and Twisted Metal. Seriously. those are just too awesome to pass up
The yellow light of death isn't common, I think it's only like 1% of ps3's get it, max. The ratio is nothing close to the 360's chance for getting the red light, so you really don't have anything to worry about. FIgure out if you want backwards compatibility. If you do, get an old one that is backwards compatible. If you don't care, get a new one.

Risks: Sony is a douche and fucks you out of another feature they advertised in the name of curbing piracy and getting some meh games.

I might just take my chances with the unreliable 360 if I were buying a console...
So you'd take the chances with a console with a massive failure rate over a feature that next to nobody used on the PS3?

Well you're priotities are set right.

I've had my ps3 since launch day in 2007, and it hasn't failed me once. the game variety is a little slim though, besides that flawless console.

if you dont clean it everyday, it'll brick after less than a year.
BBBBBUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTT.

You must have had a pretty unlucky run with a PS3 if it bricked within the year. Mine's been running for three year as of this year and my older bro's (60gig fat) has been running for about 5. I'll now and then give blow through the intakes, which will clean a fiar bit of it, but my brother has never cleaned his.

Well, I finally bought a PS3, and it just collects dust. Which is odd. I played the hell out of the PSONE and PS2. And, I love the games I have one it (Heavy Rain, Flower, Drake's, Killzone, and Dark Souls). But I guess, after two or so years with the Xbox, I am just used to the way the Xbox works. I haven't had any hardware problems with the PS3 though. I think it froze up once...?

^ this, I'm baffled at the fact that, despite constant hardware failures with 360's, people continue to buy them. I work in retail and some people come in buying their 4th or more xbox because of RROD. After my second one I said screw the PoS.

PlayStation 3 is known to cause nausea, heart failure, blindness, irritable bowel syndrome, sore throat, death, chronic masturbation, and hair loss. Do not take PlayStation 3 if you are pregnant or may become pregnant. Consult your doctor to see if PlayStation 3 is right for you.

I've owned a fat model PS3 since release. Never had any maintenance problems. That's about all the help I can give you.
well that's all fine and dandy, but then again there are some people who have had 360s that never failed. i'm looking for more what are the general risks of me dropping my 250-300 dollars on a used system so i know whether or not to just buy more 360 games or use it to help build a gaming PC in the future
First, yellow light of death is MUCH LESS LIKELY than the 360's bricking (in it's plentiful ways). But, as you said be wary about obtaining anything warranty-less, including a ps3.

My suggestion is save it as you will likely have a while before twisted metal. PC gaming is a frugal gaming experience as most games drop from $60 to $50 on pc ports of console games (or visa versa).

This is a good option too, despite what most people think, PC gaming isn't that expensive anymore, it's a long term investment.

To be fair that comic isnt really relevant anymore since it came out when the PS3 was starting to get on its feet. I suppose its up to you, the exclusives are definately worth it, and the machine is quiet as hell :p although the online does leave much to be desired. But from a purely technical side its brilliant, very low failure probability. Also i just find the PS3 to be sexy :)
