Elite Dangerous - pretty much wish fulfillment going back to my childhood and adolescence. An acquired taste, but absolutely unique and endlessly immersive.

Fallout 4 - in some ways perhaps the worst Fallout/TES Bethesda made, but I'm still rather loving it (particularly for the combination of settlement/build system and mods, on a console) and it's been the most fun I've had in one of their games since Morrowind.

...um, Dragon Age Inquisition, I guess? Only by default for now, as it's probably the only other current gen game I've bought and finished [several times]. I have Witcher 3, but I still want to go through 2 again, so that'll be ages. Not played XCOM 2, yet, as I resented its late arrival on consoles, but XCOM EW turned out to be an all time fave, so I mostly have high hopes and good expectations for 2.

Ok, to be completely honest I really like Titanfall. Doom was also one of the better games, along with Hitman. Even though Titanfall doesn't have a campaign, I wouldnt play it even if it did.

I haven't played that many.

Inside
Dark Souls III - Worst in the series, though.
The Evil Within - Pretty flawed. Still much better than RE5, RE6 and RE Revelations.
Interesting you liked DS2 more. My SotFS gets here Tuesday, and considering its underdog status within the series, I'm pretty geeked to try it out.

On topic, from what little I've played this generation it'd be between Bloodborne, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Uncharted 4. If I played it, would probably put Witcher 3 above UC4 if it's at least as good as the last two.

I will say that each of the above three I have played excel at gameplay most, which is why I picked them. Visuals are just the icing on the cake.

Bloodborne is like Souls distilled down to its essence with a shot of adrenaline to shift the focus from defensive to offensive. Hard to say if I prefer it to the best that Souls has the offer, because it is quite a bit leaner, but what is there is damn near flawless execution, with a negligible amount of trivial items or gear. Blood vials should've probably been treated like Estus flasks though, if I had to nitpick one thing.

Horizon is probably the smoothest playing open world/sandbox game I've played. Aloy is a joy to control, in everything from melee and ranged combat, to environmental traversal. Some might think climbing is too streamlined but to me it simply feels like a natural extension of her nimbleness and agility. Probably the best use of inverse kinematics I've felt yet. Some of the scavenging loot drops are a bit illogical and gamey though in terms of finding required animal/machine parts for crafting. At least they keep the required quantities reasonable. Probably could've been balanced a bit better if they ever patch it or make another.

Uncharted 4 is by far the most fleshed out and refined entry in the series. They took the best parts from TLoU in terms of contextual movement, and tossed in better climbing mechanics, melee, and gunplay. Also, driving the jeep was a blast. Winch ftw! Even the journal was fun to use and add things to. If anything felt disappointing, it would be the set pieces. There were still crazy moments, but nothing felt like it had the impact of the collapsing building or the train from UC2 for example. Overall though it still felt like the biggest adventure of the series, where every location felt interesting and well-realized.

I really dont have a list like that but I suppose Nioh is the one that has impressed me the most so far. There is a lot coming out around now and in the next few months that may make it easier if I get chance to play them or in Niers case finish it. Persona 5 is probably the most likely candidate to get a place on such an imaginary list. So atm :-

1. Nioh
2. *Placeholder*
3. *Placeholder*

Edit: Sorry, I'll come back to this post. I need to rethink the criteria for inclusion.

Edit 2: I'll save you a long speech and just post a revised list:

3) Gears of War 4 (Xbox One, 2016)

2) Heroes of the Storm (PC, 2015)

1) Halo 5: Guardians (Xbox One, 2015)

(inhales sharply) tough choice.

Undertale has been one of the most memorable experiences, if nothing else. And it still has a fucking awesome soundtrack.
Rayman Legends at least deserves a mention, for being awesome and underrated.
Hyper Light Drifter is great, even if the map sucks.
I also want to say Breath of the Wild, for having fan-fucking-tastic open-world design and mechanics, as well as the The Witcher 3, because it's The Witcher 3. And of course there's Bloodbourne. And I'm still really enjoying Civ VI, but putting that on a "best games" list may result in me being burned at the stake.

I guess, if you held a gun to my head and forced me to pick (based on the amount of fun I had in each game):

1. Undertale
2. The Witcher 3
3. Zelda: Breath of the Wild

1. Bloodborne

A terrifying dark masterpiece that more than lived up to the hype. Makes me feel like I'm playing Dark Souls for the very first time again.

2. Persona 5

I'm only 30 hours into it so far, but I'm really enjoying it. A perfect JRPG that makes me forget all about Final Fantasy XV.

3. NieR: Automata

An engaging sci-fi story with some surprising emotional tugs, a gorgeous soundtrack and combat that's so damn fluid and addictive I keep detracting from the quests just to run around the open world and get into more fights.

1. Witcher 3. No matter how much I whinge about this game and point out how much it could improve, its still a great game
2. Elder Scrolls Online. The only MMO that has me enthralled for more than a month.
3. Watch Dogs 2. You can wipe out hordes of enemies sitting down with a laptop. It makes the game a puzzle, using the environment to clean house. Wildlands does something similar with the drone but doesn't have the environmental traps
(Tied)3. Deus Ex (either new ones) I like sneaky, venting, hacking and searching whole areas (hence me liking WD2). Its way different than WD2 but fills the same role.

"Bloodborne", "Wolfenstein: The New Order" and "Alien: Isolation" spring to mind.

"Bloodborne" was (imo) the peak of the Soulsbourne franchise, and the series gets enough gushing on this forum that I largely agree with so that's pretty self-explanatory.

"Wolfenstein" was a great mix of old and new school shooters coupled with a surprisingly compelling cast. Its expansion pack was also a fun little romp and its cliche enemies didn't bother me weirdly enough.

"Isolation", for all its faults, was a fine example of a stalker horror game that used its franchise as a solid foundation both on an aesthetic level and to enhance the horror element. Xenomorphs have never felt more intimidating.

Why just 3? Anyway's this is my top 10:

1. Bloodborne
2. Dark Souls 3
3. Nioh
4. Resident Evil 7
5. Horizon Zero Dawn
6. Final Fantasy 15
7. Nier Automata
8. Yakuza 0
9. Dishonored 2 & MGS5
10. The Evil Within & Alien Isolation

Persona 5 has a good chance making it into my top 5 if it continues to keep me engaged the way it currently does.

OMG how could I forget Wicher 3? Easily in my top 3. Combat is not that great but other than that this is one of the most engrossing RPG's I've ever played. Some of the dialogue can test my patience for how long winded it can get but the stories and characters were so well written that it really added a layer of authenticity and depth to the game that is umatched by pretty much any other open-world game.
