I was only in the army for a couple years, but I can honestly that is true for some, but easily not the majority. Driving a motorbike is a suicidal. Just no. Obviously, they're more dangerous a car by their very nature, however, a lot of it is to do with how you drive. If you drive like a twat then you're far more likely to have an accident, whereas if you stay on the ball and drive defensively then it's relatively safe. Clearly you can still have an accident if you're unlucky enough to have a car exit a junction into you but being a safe driver can minimize the risks.

I've been driving for about 2 years, (currently got a Harley Sportster 883L ) and the only time I've come off has been through lack of foresight and driving on a country road around winter time when there were wet leaves on the road (about as good as ice when it comes to traction).

Sorry, but to reveal the truth: the amount of knowledge good automotive technicians hold in their head is easily on par with the knowledge doctors have. It's just a different field. I'm college trained here, and have spent countless hours after work at advanced training courses and have taken advanced, non-curicular classes at college.

Go ahead, let a doctor explain the intricacies of the heart or brain and how they work on such organs . . . if you don't mind my explaining to you the intricacies of the modern automatic transmission and what kinds of clearances one needs between internal components based on application . . .

Well, this is true in one sense of the word. However, I hate it when it's used as an argument against SCIENTIFIC theories. If you do so, you clearly know nothing about science.

This drives me nuts. Whenever I've encountered it, it always seems to be in reference to evolution and everytime it is volunteered out of context of whatever the coversation may have been. It typically goes like this, "you know, when you really think about it, evolution is just a theory" followed by a spiel about how it must then be untrue. I then have to keep my mouth shut because it's typically one of my very Catholic family members and I don't want to be the one to ruin Thanksgiving with an arguement. I don't have a problem with people who don't believe in evolution as you're free to believe whatever you want. I also don't want to make it seem like everyone who disbelieves in evolution is like this, it's just been with a few people. And for my final ass-covering, I don't want it to seem like every Catholic/Christian/whatever is like this as I still consider myself somewhat Catholic (long story). It just always catches me off guard whenever it happens. Just once I would like for someone to open up with "you know, when you think about it, general relativity is just a theory."

I would totally be willing to tear them to pieces. If they are willing to say things they really need to be able back it up and hold up against scrutiny.

Do people really think the former is true? The latter is arguable. There is a difference between "works" and "perfect".
